An investigation is underway after authorities say a woman's car caught fire and exploded in Dickinson on Friday morning. Dickinson Volunteer Fire Department crews responded to the scene in the 1700 block of Mackey Road just before 9 a.m. SkyEye video shows an extremely charred and damaged car parked in front of a home next to a driveway after it appeared the fire had been extinguished. Firefighters were seen dousing the vehicle in water. Multiple parts of the car were blown off, including most of the trunk, the windshield, and the roof. The car was unrecognizable due to the damage. Thankfully, only minor injuries were reported for the woman who was sitting in the driver's seat when it all happened. Fire officials said the woman was carrying spare oxygen and acetylene bottles.

Saturday marked the 75th anniversary of the Los Fresnos Volunteer Fire Department. To mark the occasion, firefighters gave tours of the station, and provided a history lesson of the fire department. The Los Fresnos Volunteer Fire Department was created following a 1948 cotton gin fire. At the time, area firefighters weren't around to respond to it. Firefighter Jarrett Sheldon says the Los Fresnos Volunteer Fire Department helped kick off his career. He currently serves as the Brownsville fire chief. The legacy of the fire department was celebrated at a private banquet Saturday night. Past and current firefighters were honored at the dinner.

A man was arrested and charged in connection with a hi-rise fire in downtown Austin Sunday. According to a Travis County affidavit, John Heinrich Meyer, 28, faces two charges—arson intended to damage a habitat as well as a charge involving a terroristic threat. Documents said a 911 caller said someone was setting boxes on fire on the balcony of a building in the 90 block of Red River Street. Austin Police arrived and Meyer was identified by management and witnesses. Documents stated Austin Police investigators then examined Meyer's apartment and said it was "completely ransacked." Officials also found two areas of origin in the apartment for the fires. According to the affidavit, the fire caused an estimated $360,000 in damages to the building.

New helmet camera footage obtained by FOX 25 shows a closer look at the battle firefighters had to face during a deadly apartment complex fire October 20 in northwest Oklahoma City. According to the Oklahoma City Fire Department, crews responded to a three alarm fire at the Penn Station apartment complex around 7pm that Friday, seeing smoke billowing from the building miles away. The helmet camera footage showing firefighters spraying water into a unit on the second floor trying to put the fire out, to then actually going into the burning building. The footage also showed a firefighter searching an apartment for anyone inside, to then eventually appearing to show firefighters pulling someone from the rubble. Kristina Allen was among two who were killed from the fire, and officials said a total of 16 people were displaced from the fire.

VIDEO: A UC Berkeley researcher says that automatic gas shutoff devices, like those used in Los Angeles and Japan, could cut the number of post-earthquake fires in half in San Francisco. But the city of San Francisco has yet to embrace shutoff technology, said Charles Scawthorn, an internationally recognized expert on fires after quakes. He says Japan has long relied on gas shutoffs built into gas meters – in part because of the lessons learned from the Kanto earthquake and fire, which killed an estimated 100,000 people. "This was truly hell on earth," Scawthorn said of the 7.9 magnitude quake that hit Tokyo on Sept. 1, 1923. The disaster killed more than 10,000 people outright. But far more, an estimated 80,000 lives, were lost in the 100 fires that broke out in the hours after the initial quake.

VIDEO: The Tellico Village Fire Department is unique in a few ways. First, they say they serve a unique community of people that is growing in age and growing older. Second, they have one of the fastest response times in the state with an average of 4 minutes, compared to a national average of 6 minutes. The Tellico Village Fire Department is made up of retired volunteers, all of whom are over the age of 50. The median age for these firefighters is 68, about 30 years older than the average. "There hasn't been a single 911 call in the last five years that trained personnel have not shown up at the door to help," Assistant Chief Bill Ballinger said. "That is not the norm and every volunteer fire department across the country. I've seen people park their boat, walk off the golf course in the middle of a round a golf."
