VIDEO: Two fires across the Houston area damaged multiple homes overnight. A townhome on Huff Drive in southwest Houston was burned in one fire. Then, three homes were damaged and a large grass fire was sparked on Early Mist Court in northwest Harris County. In the 11500 block of Early Mist Court, the home in the middle of the cul-de-sac was the most damaged. Video from the scene shows that the roof is almost completely gone. Meanwhile, the grass fire burned behind the impacted homes. Firefighters were called to the neighborhood around 10:45 p.m. Sunday. The Harris County Fire Marshal's Office said as crews were on their way to the scene, they got several more calls letting them know another house was on fire, and there was a grass fire, too. They called for backup.

VIDEO: Today, marks 22 years since the deadliest terrorist attack on U.S. soil. The hijacked plane attacks claimed the lives of nearly 3,000 people and claimed the lives of more than 300 first responders. Millions across the nation are remembering the lives lost on that day, through ceremonies or memorials. Here in East Texas, there's a memorial that is not only reminding firefighters of this day but also could be one of its kind locally. From the outside, the Longview Fire Training Center looks like any other but when you walk inside you are met with a 9/11 memorial. "It's kind of a bittersweet feeling we know what sacrifices were made that day and in order for us to have this memorial," said Kevin May, Longview's Fire Marshal. The two pieces of steel are debris from the World Trade Towers, ground zero.

Martha Garcia said she could barely see across the 900 Block of San Eduardo Avenue Saturday night. "It's got more and more smoke and you couldn't even see the house anymore and then the flames start shooting out," Garcia said. Two homes on San Eduardo Avenue on the West Side, just a few blocks apart, caught on fire on Saturday. One home was in the 900 block and the other was in the 400 block. No injuries were reported at either house. The San Antonio Fire Department was called to the house in the 400 block first. SAFD said the cause of that fire is still under investigation. "It's very freak nature that we see two structure fires on the same street just minutes before," John Castillo, the SAFD Battalion Chief, said.

The Texas A&M Forest Service responded to 22 new wildfire requests yesterday, battling blazes that scorched a total of 6,776 acres across the state. The high-pressure ridge that had been hovering over Texas has moved westward, allowing a surface front to descend from the north. This shift has brought the possibility of showers and thunderstorms along the boundary stretching from Lubbock to Lufkin. East Texas has seen an increase in moisture levels, with scattered rainfall observed yesterday afternoon. There's a low possibility of holdover lightning ignitions today. Currently, 215 counties have implemented burn bans due to the wildfire threat. The active wildfires include the Game Preserve Fire in Walker County, which has burned 4,428 acres and is 92% contained, and the Shearwood Creek Fire in Jasper County, which has consumed 3,562 acres and is 95% contained.

A house on West Elm Street in the City of Oneida was destroyed early Saturday morning by an explosion caused by a stolen vehicle crashing into the home. There were no injuries to homeowners, neighbors or emergency crews. Oneida Mayor Helen Acker posted on Facebook "there were no fatalities." Police say the crash, which happened around 3:00am, severed the gas line into the house. Six homes were subsequently evacuated, police tell NewsChannel 9. After nearly three hours of leaking gas, the home exploded. It forced first responders to hide behind fire trucks to dodge flying debris. Oneida Police tell NewsChannel 9 that the vehicle that crashed into the home was stolen by a juvenile. There is also extensive damage to surrounding buildings. All utilities have been secured and there is no danger to the public.

A panel of city leaders and firefighters chose the name "Purple Rain" from a list of suggestions from 160 residents. Sixteen different people suggested "Purple Rain." The city also has an engine painted in black-and-gold colors honoring University of Southern Mississippi.

VIDEO/PHOTOS: A skateboarding event in Hollywood turned hostile and violent Saturday night when a crowd began setting fire to property and at least one vehicle. The skateboarding competition started around 4:30 p.m. on the 1600 block of Cherokee Avenue and became violent around 7:22 p.m. when the crowd began acting up, police said. The crowds began lighting trash cans and a car on fire while igniting fireworks, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Citizen video from the scene shows graffiti covering a L.A. Fire Department vehicle, a fully charred vehicle sitting in the parking lot, and general vandalism where the event took place. Crowds of people were seen surrounding a raging fire ignited in the parking lot as heavy smoke billowed into the sky.

VIDEO: The number of first responders who have died from 9/11-related illnesses now almost equals the number of firefighters who died during the terror attacks themselves. A total of 341 New York City Fire Department firefighters, paramedics and civilian support staff who died from post-911 illnesses are now memorialized at the FDNY World Trade Center Memorial Wall, according to the Uniformed Firefighters Association. The memorial commemorates both first responders who died during the attacks and those who died from related illnesses in the years since. That count almost equals the 343 New York firefighters who died during the 2001 attacks. The fire department added 43 names to the memorial on September 6, according to a news release.
