Update: 3 children rescued from balcony during apartment fire in Texas City VIDEO: Firefighters rescued three children from a balcony during a massive apartment fire in Texas City Wednesday morning. The rescue was caught on camera by a KHOU 11 viewer. Texas City Fire Chief Micah Simons said fire crews responded to the fire at about 6:45 a.m. at the Del Sol Apartments at the corner of Loop 197 and 25th Avenue. When fire crews first arrived, there were reports of people trapped inside of the fire, the chief said. They saw the children on the balcony and used a ladder to reach them. The children were checked after the rescue and did not suffer any injuries. One woman who lives nearby rushed to the scene to find her grandchildren who were rescued. She is glad her family is safe, but there is some loss they're experiencing. KHOU-TV CBS 11 HOUSTON Local fire departments attend aerial firefighting course in Mineola Local fire departments attended a free aerial training course to better prepare themselves for the upcoming wildfire season in Mineola. Community leaders and local fire departments were invited to the course hosted by the Texas Forest Service and Dauntless Air, an aerial firefighting company on Wednesday, helping crews learn how to extinguish fires from aircrafts. "Like most fire training, anytime there's a resource that can be utilized on wild land fires is good to be more familiar with it, whether on how to communicate or how to be more tactfully efficient with it in support of your own fire operations," Dan Carrol, development advisor for Dauntless Air, said. The course was an introduction of aerial firefighting by using the Dauntless FireBoss aircraft. KETK-TV NBC 56 JACKSONVILLE Mentorship program at Pflugerville Fire Department prepares cadets for careers Inspired by the unofficial mentors they had early in their careers, six firefighters in the Pflugerville Fire Department have created a mentorship program to guide cadets as they begin theirs. While in the program, cadets sit in on monthly sessions with one of the six mentors to discuss issues that will better prepare them for life as a firefighter. Those issues can range from mental health to the tough situations they may see while on a call. Launched in May 2022, the department's in-house cadet program is a free six-month training series offering residents a way to become certified Texas firefighters and emergency medical technicians. Cadets who graduate have the opportunity to become full-time employees. AUSTIN AMERICAN-STATESMAN - METERED SITE PREVIOUS STATE NEWS |

VIDEO: Firefighter collapses while battling fire at New Hampshire farmhouse A firefighter was taken to the hospital after suffering a medical issue while fighting a house fire Wednesday. First responders performed CPR on him before he was rushed to the hospital. Neighbors say they saw flames coming from the second floor of an old farmhouse on Scotland Road in Kingston, but the entire home turned into a fireball within minutes. When the fire started just after 5 p.m. Wednesday, the fire department said at least four people were in the home. Kingston Assistant Fire Chief Ken Walker said the home had an apartment attached to it, but it was unclear exactly how many people lived in the home. "We were just sitting at home eating dinner, and my daughter looked out the window and said, 'I think the neighbor's house is on fire,' and I said, 'Yeah, right.'" Felicia Cooke lives across from the farmhouse. WBZ-TV CBS 4 BOSTON AT&T customers report a massive outage, disrupting phone service across America AT&T's network went down for many of its customers across the United States Thursday morning, leaving customers unable to place calls, text or access the internet. By late morning, the company said most of its network had been restored. Although Verizon and T-Mobile customers reported some network outages, too, they appeared far less widespread. T-Mobile and Verizon said their networks were unaffected by AT&T's service outage and customers reporting outages may have been unable to reach customers who use AT&T. More than 74,000 AT&T customers reported outages on digital-service tracking site DownDetector, with service disruptions beginning around 4 am ET. That's not a comprehensive number: It tracks only self-reported outages. Reports had been rising steadily throughout the morning, but leveled off in the 9 am ET hour. By 11 am ET, the DownDetector data showed some 60,000 AT&T customers still reporting outages. CNN BUSINESS Fire Rescue in Florida releases hour-long video showing firefighters battling apartment complex fire VIDEO: The Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department on Wednesday released an hour-long video showing dozens of firefighters battling a massive fire at the RISE Doro apartment complex downtown. The $60 million apartment project is now being demolished after it was destroyed when a fire broke out last month. The video begins when the fire starts late on a Sunday night and shows crews working until the sun comes up to put the fire out and keep the building from collapsing onto nearby businesses. In the video, JFRD features colorful radio traffic so you can hear exactly how they collaborated to attack the blaze. WJXT-TV 4 JACKSONVILLE Fire Museum in Central Ohio Showcases History of Local Firefighters PHOTOS: Located in the former Columbus Engine House No.16, the building was completed in 1908 and was built as the last engine house in the city to accommodate horse-drawn steam engines. The station closed in 1982 and after twenty years of fundraising and a $900,000 renovation, the museum moved into the building and opened to the public in 2002. Now, the beautifully restored engine house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is the perfect place to showcase the history of Columbus' heroic firefighters. Whether you're interested in fire safety, learning about the history of firefighting, or just looking for a unique museum to explore, the Central Ohio Fire Museum & Learning Center is an excellent community resource. The museum houses a collection of antique firefighting equipment, including hand-pumped engines, horse-drawn wagons, and early motorized fire trucks. OHIO.ORG PREVIOUS NATIONAL NEWS |
