VIDEO: Flames engulf, destroy home in Orange An early Thursday morning fire destroyed a home in Orange but it appears the home was unoccupied. City of Orange firefighters were sent to the home in the 5600 block of Mickler Dr north of Interstate 10 just before 1 a.m. Thursday morning. When firefighters arrived the home was already fully engulfed in flames and smoke was billowing into the sky. At one point something inside the house exploded as the flames roared. Neighbors told 12News that the residents had moved out just last week. Officials are still investigating the cause of the fire and no information on how it may have started has been released. KBMT-TV ABC/NBC 12 BEAUMONT Firefighter injured while battling blaze at storage facility in northwest Harris County A firefighter is recovering after battling a stubborn fire at a storage unit in northwest Harris County. Around 9 p.m. Wednesday night, crews with the Klein Fire Department, with help from the Cypress Creek and Tomball fire departments, got to the storage facility located at the 22300 block of the Tomball Parkway and were able to contain the fire, which had only spread to three units. However, the fire was hard to extinguish, and it took crews several hours to finally put it down, damaging more than 60 units in total. That one firefighter was taken by ambulance to a hospital for heat exhaustion and is expected to be okay. It's unclear what caused the fire as authorities with the Harris County Fire Marshal's Office are still investigating this incident. KIAH-TV CW 39 HOUSTON Arsonist who targeted Governor's mansion in Austin still at large 15 years later PHOTOS: A shadowy figure pitched a Molotov cocktail onto the veranda of the Texas Governor's Mansion 15 years ago, then vanished into the night-cloaked oaks. We might never know who torched and nearly destroyed the Texas landmark, now 167 years old, on June 8, 2008. Although there was surveillance video, the Texas Department of Public Safety has yet to charge anyone, and the statute of limitations for the crime expired in 2019. DPS, which is responsible for securing the governor, the mansion and the state Capitol, did not respond to a request for comment. Gregg Cox, former Travis County assistant district attorney, told KVUE in 2019 there is still a small chance that someone could be prosecuted. That's because the arsonist could be charged with the crime only if they lived outside of Texas during the first 10 years since the fire, Cox said. SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS - METERED SITE Fort Worth Fire Department adds paramedics at 7 firehouses to improve medical response The Fort Worth Fire Department launched a new program over the weekend that will allow them to provide a better medical response to remote areas seeing a spike in population. "With the city that's ever-growing as quickly as Fort Worth is, we have some issues of some of these new areas and getting out there in the time allotted that we want to make," Craig Trojacek, spokesperson for the Fort Worth Fire Department said. "We've kind of dubbed it the Fire Station Paramedic Program," Trojacek said. "The purpose behind it all is really for the fact that we're looking at trying to bring better patient care from a citywide standpoint to parts of our city where it's tough for us to get out to." The fire department attributes part of the issue to the growth and traffic delays. KXAS-TV NBC 5 FORT WORTH PREVIOUS STATE NEWS |

Industrial building fire in Washington destroys 7 businesses VIDEO/PHOTOS: A fire tore through a large industrial building in the Salmon Creek area north of Vancouver late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning and destroyed at least seven businesses, according to a news release from Clark County Fire District 6. There were no reported injuries. Dispatch records show crews were initially called to a commercial fire at 14615 NE 13th Court at around 10:45 p.m. Tuesday. Employees inside the building at that address reported smoke coming from an upstairs window and heard fire alarms going off, according to the news release. They called 911 when smoke began filling the building a short time later. Fire crews arrived to find the structure fully engulfed in flames, and took a defensive approach to keep the fire from spreading to nearby buildings. Firefighters described the fire as violent and fast-moving. SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS - METERED SITE Wisconsin county's cardiac arrest save percentage double the national average VIDEO: Dane County EMS is reporting double the national average success rate when returning a person who suffered cardiac arrest to quality of life. "We respond to just over 400 sudden cardiac arrests in a given year. In Dane County, for every patient that we respond to, we have about a 15% success rate in returning that person to a quality of life. Nationally, that's at right around 7% for the quality of life," said EMS data analyst Eric Anderson. Anderson says when a bystander responds with CPR, the survival rate jumps to 65%. SSM Health EMS regional medical director, Dr. Kacey Kronenfeld, says a huge part of the success is bystander CPR, getting crucial compressions started immediately while EMS is on the way. The only way this is possible is by training 911 call-takers on how to best convey CPR instructions over the phone. WMTV NBC/CW 15 MADISON FDNY says ‘no firehouses used to house migrants,' despite fake memo An FDNY spokesperson said Wednesday that no firehouses will be used to help address the city's ongoing migrant crisis despite a fake memo circulating online. Social media users flooded websites with the fake memo, purportedly from Chief of Operations John Esposito, Tuesday night saying that firehouses would shelter migrants in their living quarters under orders from the office of Mayor Eric Adams, but FDNY spokeswoman Amanda Farinacci confirmed Wednesday that it was a fake. "Tuesday night, a letter appearing to be an official FDNY internal document was circulated, purporting that firehouses will be used to house migrants. This is categorically false," she said. "The document is a fake, and there will be no firehouses used to house migrants." SILIVE.COM Metro Atlanta firefighters learn how to respond to a freight train catastrophe VIDEO/PHOTOS: Firefighters got real-world training they hope never to have to use in one of Norfolk Southern's railyards in East Point Tuesday afternoon. The training comes a little more than four months after a devastating derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, which displaced about 5,000 residents. "We can do better," said Alan Shaw, CEO of Norfolk Southern, promising changes. "This is an effort to make [communities] safer." Metro Atlanta is a major freight rail hub - and also where the company is headquartered. Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp joined firefighters and state transportation and emergency management officials on a specially designed train that gives first responders an up-close look at how rail transport works and how they can prepare for worst-case scenarios.
