First responders arrived to the 8500 block of Huisache Street in Tuleta, Texas around 3 p.m. after getting reports of a house fire. When they got to the scene, first responders were told that there were possibly two people still inside the house. Officials tried, without success, to gain entry to the house. Fire officials from Beeville, North Bee, and Karnes County were called to tackle the fire. While controlling the blaze, two bodies were found inside the residence. The identities of the two individuals still remain unknown. But he soon after got entangled in old metal and ended up underneath a concrete pad beneath the surface. Simultaneously, a military vessel was coming through the ship channel. But the diver wouldn't know that; he couldn't see. "In the water here, unless you're very lucky, visibility is six inches or zero," said Capt. Joshua Reswebber. "All of this is done with our eyes closed wearing extra equipment. That's why training is so important, to make it safe for the diver and to make you proficient in your skills when you're in the water." Reswebber, who has been with the department since 2005, earned his scuba certification in 2013. It's one of several certifications divers earn ranging from the ability to dive 60 feet to operating metal detectors underwater. VIDEO: 25 firefighters worked to put out fire at Florida home More than two dozen firefighters raced to put out fierce flames after a home in Margate caught fire. Margate Fire Rescue units responded to the scene of the blaze along the 1300 block of Northwest 58th Street, at around 6 p.m., Wednesday. Neighbors across the street recorded and sent videos to 7News of flames and gusts of black smoke coming from the burning residence. Firefighters got to work right away. Off camera, 7News spoke to the homeowner. He said he alerted his family before they all escaped the home, with pets included. "On arrival, we did find everybody evacuated the house, but the back porch, the backside of the house was totally engulfed in the fire. Our firefighters were able to fully extinguish it, and do a search and we are currently investigating the fire," said Margate Fire Rescue Chief Roberto Lorenzo. PORT ARTHUR NEWS - METERED SITE New Jersey firefighter teaches kids how to create comics in upcoming art classes Every superhero has a secret identity and an origin story. When Eli Ramos isn't protecting Jersey City as a firefighter, he can be seen putting his superpowers to the test as an art instructor, mural painter, and comic book illustrator. Now he's teaming up with the West Hudson Arts & Theatre Company (W.H.A.T. Co.) for a series of Spring Arts Classes that begin Monday, March 7. These classes are part of W.H.A.T.'s initiative to embrace older teens following its appointment of Brandi Leigh-Miller as its new president. This will be a first-of-its-kind class in West Hudson in "Comic Book & Manga Art." Ramos was first introduced to our W.H.A.T. Co. through East Newark Mayor Dina Grillo following his completion of a new mural along Central Avenue adjacent to the newly refurbished Tops Diner. His goal through his new "Comic Book and Manga Art" class is to help kids find a voice through more non-traditional art forms. THE JERSEY JOURNAL - NJ.COM Flames engulfed firefighters as they tried saving 3-year-old, Mississippi chief says A group of Mississippi firefighters caught fire during their desperate attempt to save a 3-year-old from a burning apartment on March 1, according to the Greenville Fire Department. The boy died in the fire. But the valiant attempt to rescue him at all costs is being hailed as heroic in Greenville, 150 miles southwest of Memphis, Tennessee. City Fire Chief Ruben Brown Sr. said in a March 2 Facebook post that he witnessed firefighters "display extra ordinary courage and bravery" at the scene. He also shared a photo of the helmet worn by Fire Captain Randy Ray Jr., showing how it melted atop his head during the rescue attempt. "They pushed themselves through smoke, heat and fire. The bottom floor was fully engulfed upon arrival. But, this didn't stop them. They proceeded to the top floor," Brown wrote. RALEIGH NEWS & OBSERVER PREVIOUS NATIONAL NEWS |
