VIDEO: Crews worked early Thursday morning to put out a house fire in north Houston. No one was reported hurt, but there was extensive damage to the home and three pets died. Firefighters said add-ons to the house made it difficult to put out because it was challenging to navigate through multiple areas. They also said heavy fire in the attic made it even harder to put the fire out. The family living in the home told KHOU 11's Katiera Winfrey that the husband woke up to smoke and fire and alerted everyone. It's unclear how many people were inside, but everyone reportedly got out safe. The wife said she saw smoke and fire coming out of a window and was afraid the house might explode, so she grabbed her son and rushed out. Fire officials are investigating the cause of the fire but said a grill had been left on overnight. KHOU-TV CBS 11 HOUSTON Frisco's fire department is one of six across the country—and the only one from Texas—selected by the U.S. Fire Administration to test a prototype information and analytics system. The National Emergency Response Information System is an analytic system designed to collect critical information following emergencies to document and introduce community risk reduction efforts, according to a March 12 U.S. Fire Administration news release. The system will empower fire and emergency services communities by equipping them with an empirical basis for decision-making, according to the U.S. Fire Administration's website. It is built with geographic information system technology for location-enabled decision support capabilities, according to the news release. COMMUNITY IMPACT An early-morning fire severely damaged a South Side home after it made its way to the attic early Thursday morning, according to the San Antonio Fire Department. The fire was called in around 6:15 a.m. at a home in the 900 block of West Theo Avenue, not far from Nogalitos Street and Interstate 35. Firefighters said they arrived to find heavy flames showing on the backside of the house. They managed to put the fire out quickly and without incident. Fire officials said the home has a second-story extension on the back and that the flames made their way through the kitchen into the attic. A woman and her son were inside the home at the time of the fire, but they made it out safely and were not hurt. A fire investigation team is now working to determine the exact cause of the fire. VIDEO/PHOTOS: Four Green Valley Volunteer firefighters were hospitalized after a fire truck crashed in rural Wayne County Wednesday. One was transported in a helicopter and three others by ambulance. "Good to see you. I appreciate you," a Green Valley Volunteer Firefighter said to a Huntington Fire Department captain. Truck 804 and its four members were noticeably absent from the Green Valley Volunteer Fire Department Wednesday evening. "...[Jesus] have grace and mercy and that you would bring them peace," a prayer circle said. Rome, Kenova and Huntington Fire Departments are taking turns covering for Green Valley. The firefighters aren't ready to talk but welcomed Eyewitness News to the fire station to show the brotherhood of all fire departments in the area. WCHS-TV ABC/FOX 8 CHARLESTON VIDEO: It's a reconstruction of a machine that was key to fighting fires in New York in the 1700s. The Newsham engine was the first fire engine brought here from England in 1731. "It may not look like much compared to today's fire engines and everything, but compared to a bucket brigade throwing little buckets on the fire, this thing could throw 40 yards, 70 gallons a minute onto a fire," Author Bruce Twickler said. Twickler created the new permanent exhibit called Colonial Firefighting and the American Revolution. It's at the New York City Fire Museum, the official museum of the FDNY. The exhibition looks back at the history of firefighting and the fire department during the 17th and 18th centuries, using state-of-the-art animation. It includes a depiction of the great New York Fire of 1776, the most destructive fire in the history of colonial North America. SPECTRUM NEWS 1 NY - METERED SITE VIDEO: Sixteen people were injured during an explosion at an FBI training facility in the Southern California city of Irvine Wednesday, officials said. Orange County Sheriff's Department deputies were using the facility on Magazine Road when the incident occurred a little before 1 p.m., a department spokesperson told CBS Los Angeles. Thirteen of the injuries were related to the noise of the blast, resulting in the victims suffering from dizziness and ear pain, the sheriff's department said. Two of the injuries were to victim's legs, one of whom required surgery. Another person suffered a back injury but will not require surgery, the sheriff's spokesperson said. "It's not a good feeling anytime an injury happens to anybody, including members of our own staff," said OCSD Sergeant Frank Gonzalez . KCAL-TV CBS 9 LOS ANGELES Two Lehigh Valley fire departments are looking to swap firetrucks for firefighter training. Easton City Council at its meeting Wednesday night was scheduled to consider a resolution to approve sending two pieces of fire apparatus, which are not currently in use, to the Allentown Fire Department. Allentown, in turn, would waive the tuition of two of six recruits Easton currently has in the Allentown Fire Academy, according to the proposal. The trucks are a 1995 E-One and KME Predator, which Easton fire Chief Hennings confirmed are both engines. Easton is in the process of replacing both, according to the resolution. Easton council last November approved purchasing a $1.14 million 2027 Pierce Enforcer pumper truck and in April 2022 agreed to purchase a 2024 Pierce Enforcer 107-foot Tractor-Drawn Aerial at a cost of $1,718,600. THE EXPRESS-TIMES - LEHIGHVALLEYLIVE.COM The White House has launched a nationwide call-to-action to save lives from opioid overdoses -- an election year effort to tackle the opioid crisis. In its Wednesday announcement, the Biden-Harris Administration said it hopes the new effort will help get Naloxone, a drug meant to reverse opioid overdose, into as many communities as possible, increase training and broaden access to the drug. "We really want to make sure that we're flooding the zone with Naloxone, where appropriate, to ensure that everyone who needs it can get access," White House Domestic Policy Advisor Neera Tanden said on a call with reporters. The administration said it is encouraging businesses and organizations to join the effort, train their employees and make Naloxone readily available to both customers and employees in their community.
