The fire broke out Thursday morning at a boarded up apartment complex located at 5211 Cameron Road. That's near I-35 and 51st Street. AFD said initial reports were of smoke coming off the ceiling of the upper apartments. The fire went to two alarms, but the second alarm was canceled. Baltimore Fire Department details new procedures in battling fires following deaths of two firefighters VIDEO: WJZ has learned that the Baltimore Fire Department is making adjustments to how it fights fires. The adjusted procedures were sent out in a memo to staff on Tuesday. For the second week in a row, firefighters gathered outside the Duda-Ruck Funeral Home in Dundalk to pay respects to one of their fallen brothers. "Our members, they're hurt," Baltimore City Fire Chief James Wallace said. Dillon Rinaldo, who was posthumously promoted to captain, will be laid to rest this week. He was a six-year veteran of the department. Rinaldo and EMT/Firefighter Rodney W. Pitts lll, whose funeral was last week, were both killed battling a fire last month on Linden Heights Avenue. "We're not made of steel," Chief Wallace said. "We're not. We are human beings. These things affect us in ways that the average person just doesn't know." WJZ-TV CBS 13 BALTIMORE ‘Whatever it takes': Kentucky fire department helping with 11 story building collapse VIDEO: A rescue mission is underway in Eastern Kentucky. Crews are helping to rescue one person after an 11 story building collapsed in Martin County. One person has died. Among the crews helping are Lexington firefighters. Lexington firefighters left around three in the morning on Tuesday and arrived in Martin County around 5:30 a.m. according to Lexington District Chief Derek Roberts. They deployed nine people total, and some of those firefighters are structural collapse specialists. They are assisting with search and rescue efforts for the individual trapped inside the building. "The training requirements are extraordinary. It takes years to get to that point and so there are very few people in the grand scheme of things in the state that have that level of training, let alone the equipment." WKYT-TV CBS/CW 27 LEXINGTON 22 push-ups for 22 days: Wisconsin first responders join challenge to bring awareness to veteran suicide VIDEO: First responders in Milwaukee are taking a challenge to bring awareness to veterans' mental health. On Wednesday, Nov. 1, Milwaukee police, firefighters, and activists joined army recruits to begin 22 push-ups for 22 days, a challenge that raises awareness of the 22 veterans that commit suicide every day. For veterans like Keith Garland, who also is a Milwaukee police officer, it's a statistic that hits close to home. "I personally lost a teammate who committed suicide, and we never saw the signs, and it was sudden," Garland said. Participants hope the challenge will help erase the stigma associated with mental health, especially in the military. "We're talking about it; our soldiers are talking about it. We're not going to hide behind a curtain and wait until it's too late to intervene," said Lt. Col. Oliver Karp, the local commander for army recruitment. WDJT-TV CBS 58 MILWAUKEE Toyota recalls nearly 1.9 million RAV4 SUVs in the U.S. over fire risk Toyota is recalling roughly 1.9 million RAV4 sport utility vehicles in the U.S. because the batteries can shift during sharp turns and potentially cause a fire. The recall, which Toyota announced Wednesday, affects certain RAV4s from the 2013 through 2018 model years. The Japanese automaker said in a statement that some replacement 12-volt batteries used in the SUVs have smaller top dimensions than others. If the hold-down clamp is not tightened properly, the battery could move, allowing the positive terminal to contact the clamp and short circuit, increasing the risk of a fire, the company said. Toyota said it is still preparing a fix. When the remedy is ready, dealers will replace the hold-down clamp, battery tray and positive terminal cover with improved ones.
