One person was injured in an explosion at a propane production facility in Waller County on Wednesday afternoon, according to emergency officials. It happened around 12:30 p.m. at the RapidXchange Production Facility on FM 529 in Brookshire, about 10 miles north of I-10. As of 3:30 p.m., the Waller County Fire Marshal's Office said the fire was under control and the grass fire surrounding the facility was completely contained. Smoke from the fire could be seen on Houston TranStar cameras from the Katy Freeway and workers at businesses around the area said they saw thick black smoke and fire shooting from the building. Workers were present at the facility at the time of the explosion and said they weren't exactly sure what happened, but when the initial blast took place, all employees were told to evacuate.

VIDEO: An investigation is underway after an Irving apartment complex caught fire overnight Tuesday, damaging about 10 residences and displacing an untold number of people. According to the Irving Fire Department, officials received a call at 11:48 p.m. about a fire at the Calloway at Las Colinas apartments off Park Ridge Boulevard. Officials said when firefighters arrived at the scene, they could see the fire coming through the roof of the apartment building and called for a second alarm. A mother and son working for a trash collection company told NBC 5 they smelled the smoke and immediately started banging on doors to get people out safely. A total of 10 units were involved in the fire, officials said. No residents or firefighters were injured during the blaze.

VIDEO: Seven Killeen firefighters have returned home from aiding in hurricane relief efforts in North Carolina and Florida, according to the City. Killeen Fire Battalion Chief Phillip Bannister, Fire Rescue Officer Joshua Menix, Fire Rescue Officer Mark DiGiAcomo, Captain Marvin Taylor and Captain Mark Whiteley held a press conference on Oct. 16 to discuss their first deployment outside of the state of Texas. "We're tired, but we're in good spirits and now just getting our lives back into a routine," Menix said. The City of Killeen said Bannister first deployed to Florida to assist after Hurricane Helene, but was later reassigned to North Carolina to deliver aid, assess damage and perform in search efforts. Bannister was deployed for 21 days, the City said, with the rest of the team serving a 14-day deployment to Florida, assisting with water rescues with Texas A&M Task Force 1.

VIDEO: San Antonio homeowner Pam says she was on the south-side when she got a panicked phone call from a family member telling her their 1930s east-side homestead was ablaze. She said as soon as she got on the freeway to race home, she was horrified to see heavy black smoke on the horizon. Getting closer to home, she said she realized the nightmare was reality, but it wasn't their original home that was lost. It was a 500 square foot casita on the lot. "It was actually my daughter's house. We were in the process of remodeling it," Pam said. Fire officials say the blaze was the start of an inferno that jumped three city blocks and eventually damaged or destroyed six houses and one shed. They said the fire started on Nolan Street, spread north to Bluebonnet and then jumped again to Orphan Street.

VIDEO: If you call for fire services in one of 35 counties in Georgia, specially trained prison inmates may be the first to respond. Amid a historic shortage of firefighters, Georgia counties are increasingly turning to state prisons for manpower. The latest data from the National Fire Protection Association reports the lowest number of volunteer firefighters nationwide since 1991. About a fourth of all Georgia counties are now sourcing help from state prison inmates participating in the Georgia Department of Corrections' Firefighter Program. The program was established in 1963 to train incarcerated people to be firefighters while they serve their time in prison. Once they are certified, the inmates can respond to fires within the community -- outside the prison fence.
