New tower truck joins Tyler Fire Department fleet The Tyler Fire Department, specifically Station Ten on Old Omen Road, got a shiny new truck to add to the fleet. The Tower Ten truck was initiated into service with a traditional "push-in" ceremony. City council members and Mayor Don Warren threw buckets of water onto the truck and firefighters from the station dried it with towels. The truck was then ‘pushed' into the garage with a little help from the engine and the reverse gear. It weighs about 75,000 pounds, 25,000 pounds more than a regular fire engine. Tyler Fire Chief David Coble said they got the new truck not as a replacement but as an addition. "We've added to the number of firefighters that are on the street every day by putting this truck in service, so here at this station there was only an engine company here, one truck, and now there's two," Coble said. KLTV ABC 7 TYLER San Antonio International Airport conducts emergency exercise VIDEO: Hundreds of people took part Wednesday in a training exercise that simulated a plane crash at the San Antonio International Airport. More than 35 emergency units responded to pieces of a Boeing 737 aircraft spread across the field at the airport. Flames erupted from the mock plane and smoke filled the air as first responders rushed to the mock scene. The Southwest Texas Regional Advisory Council (STRAC) helped coordinate the simulation. Airport staff was joined by many groups that played a role in the training, including the San Antonio Fire Department. "What we're going to simulate today is basically a large plane going down with about 100 occupants, souls on board. When you think about that, you are looking at a building that's landed sideways that is wrapped in fuel," SAFD Chief Charles Hood said. KSAT-TV ABC 12 SAN ANTONIO Temple firefighters tackle two fires Temple firefighters took on two separate fires Wednesday. At this time, firefighters do not believe they are connected. The first fire happened just after 11 a.m. inside a silo at the Mars Pet Care Production facility on Eberhart Road. Firefighters saw smoke coming from a holding silo that had roughly 300,000 lbs of product inside. Firefighters used a thermal imager to locate the heat center and then cut a small hole into the silo there. The crews then sprayed water inside to extinguish the flames. The second incident was a grass/brush fire between Buzzi Court and Moores Mill Road around 1:10 p.m. Morgans Point Resort Fire, Moffat VFD, Troy VFD, and the Texas A&M Forest Service assisted Temple because of the weather conditions. They worked together to clear brush and get crews to the fire. KWKT-TV FOX 44 WACO Crews put out large grass fire in east Harris County PHOTO: Fire crews have put out a large grass fire which broke out following a diesel truck fire near the Fred Hartman bridge in east Harris County. According to the La Porte Office of Emergency Management, the fire is burned in a marshy area just east of the bridge. They said the fire started from a diesel truck and then spread to the grass. Fire departments from Deer Park, Pasadena, and Webster assisted in the response. Officials said the La Porte Fire Department will remain at the scene to put out any additional hotspots and to recover two grass rigs which were caught in the fire. VIDEO: Firefighters battle large house fire in Louisiana Firefighters with the St. Tammany Fire Protection District No. 11 battled a massive house fire overnight. The fire broke out at a home on Allen Crawford Road near Pearl River sometime around 10:00 p.m. Wednesday and was under control at about 1:00 a.m. Thursday. The fire department says everyone inside got out and was safe before the fire consumed the entire house. Video from the fire department shows the intensity of the fire. Flames can be seen enveloping the entire structure of the home and even completely destroying a nearby parked SUV. No word on what caused the fire. WWL-TV CBS 4 NEW ORLEANS Legacy of firefighting equipment comes alive at Pennsylvania fire company's museum PHOTOS: Bernard Boltz believes Perseverance Fire Company in Jonestown has a long history of using cutting-edge firefighting technology. "History runs deep with the company, and we're the second oldest in the county," said Boltz, noting that Union Fire Company Engine 16 in Lebanon is the oldest, having been founded in the late 1700s. "Our members take pride in it and we've always tried to be cutting edge." Nowhere is that more evident in the historic firefighting gear and other apparatus that's featured in their fire museum. Situated in several rooms in their firehouse, the museum contains artifacts from as early as the 1800s. (One of the two museum rooms mostly houses historic items related to Jonestown, founded in 1761, and other memorabilia from the surrounding area.) LEBTOWN Electric vehicle fires are a real pain point for Arizona firefighters, but new technology could help VIDEOS: When a Tesla crashed and burst into flames in Scottsdale, it reignited on the tow truck. On a California highway, it took firefighters three hours and 6,000 gallons of water to stop an Electric Vehicle (EV) from burning. "Electric vehicle fires have become really a pain for us," said Dave Folio of the Scottsdale Fire Department. EV fires are dangerous, costly, and full of unknowns. "We're still figuring out ways to deal with them; Everything from putting them in a dumpster and loading sand on top of them and possibly even burying them in some cases," Folio said. "Right now, we're all scrambling to come up with a better way." There's no single tool that is standard for all firefighters to use while battling EV fires, but there is new technology that could help. KTVK-TV CBS 3 & KPHO-TV CBS 5 PHOENIX (AZ FAMILY) Florida fire rescue captain deployed to Israel shares firsthand account amid war VIDEO: A South Florida firefighter on a mission in Israel shared his firsthand account after he answered the call for help amid the ongoing conflict. Just outside of Tel Aviv, firefighters heard sirens in the distance and missiles passing above them. Among them was Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue Capt. Jason Friedman. He spoke with 7News via Zoom on Wednesday. "It was a little nerve-racking, to say the least," he said. Heart-stopping video showed what the the first responder experienced while he was looking for shelter shortly after he arrived in Israel. Friedman is there with Emergency Volunteers Project, or EVP, and on day 6 of his deployment, he was stationed in Jerusalem, where he described it as eerily quiet. "I'm at a station that normally runs numbers between 10 and 15 calls a day. We've been running maybe, like, three to four calls a day," he said. WSVN-TV FOX 7 MIAMI Firefighters recall ghostly experiences at former South Carolina fire station VIDEO: Located on the upper part of Rivers Avenue in North Charleston sits a former fire station – Old Station 6 – that some believe carries a deeper history. The building is now privately owned, but former employees of the old fire station say they have felt a presence while previously working on the property. There are a number of stories as to how Old Station 6 in North Charleston became haunted. "From what I have been told when I first came in, there was a train accident and the train hit a car and it took about a mile before the train came to a stop with the vehicle. And the guys who were before me, claim that the guy on the train right behind here came, moved in here and that's who been here," said Battalion Chief Alkahabir Smith.
