One elderly woman dead as crews fight Falfurrias fire VIDEO: An elderly woman is dead Monday after a large mobile-home structure caught fire in Falfurrias on Monday. Her identity has not yet been released. Falfurrias fire officials have been working the scene since 10 a.m. Monday, and fire chief Ruben Ramirez said that while the fire is under control, it is still burning too hot to be able to recover the woman's remains. Brooks County dispatch told 3NEWS on Monday afternoon that more than 35 firefighters are working to put out flames in the 600 block of West Holland Street. The structure on fire is three mobile homes that have been attached to create one large structure, Ramirez said. It is currently unknown how the fire began. KIII-TV ABC 3 CORPUS CHRISTI Potter County Fire & Rescue Department to receive new equipment, station renovations Nearly $2 million was approved for new equipment and station renovations by Potter County Commissioners. These enhancements aim to boost the efficiency of the fire department, ensuring improved public safety for the community. Equipment prices are projected to rise in the coming year, so acquiring new equipment now is a more favorable option for the fire department. "All of the equipment and the renovations are funded by the County Assistance District. Basically what this does is it allows us to make improvements to the fire department without having to increase property tax values throughout the county," said Richard Lake, Fire Chief, Potter County Fire & Rescue. In regards to the renovation of station #6, the fire department seeks to establish an improved and more functional space with a $595,000 investment. KFDA-TV CBS 10 AMARILLO Corpus Christi Fire Department examines impact of new Harbor Bridge on future emergency response to North Beach If you or a loved one has ever faced an emergency then you know the time it takes for first responders to get to you could make all the difference in your recovery. Fire Station #1, which currently services North Beach, will no longer be the fastest fire station to service that area once the new Harbor Bridge opens. We're still about a year and a half away from the New Harbor Bridge opening to traffic. However, the Corpus Christi Fire Department is working on solutions to make sure crews can get to an emergency on North Beach in a timely manner, including looking at two different stations to take over that responsibility. North Beach resident Bob Catalano said having a fire station just over the bridge can make all the difference, especially when his mother needed quick medical attention just last year. KIII-TV ABC 3 CORPUS CHRISTI Round Rock Fire Department launches Instagram account VIDEO: The Round Rock Fire Department (RRFD) launched its new Instagram account today in a strategic move to broaden its community outreach and recruitment efforts. While RRFD already maintains a presence on Facebook, the decision to establish a presence on the visual-centric platform stems from its popularity among younger demographics, making it an invaluable tool for reaching potential new recruits and residents who are interested in fire safety and community events. RRFD aims to steadily grow its audience by sharing behind-the-scenes insights into the life of firefighters and highlighting training exercises, community involvement and day-to-day operations. "Instagram offers us a new opportunity to connect with our community, showcase our department's values, and inspire the next generation of firefighters," said Fire Chief Shane Glaiser. VIDEO: Flames engulf California yacht club; 2 firefighters injured Two firefighters were injured while battling flames that engulfed a yacht club that has been a local landmark in Marina del Rey for decades. The fire was reported around 11:30 p.m. Monday at the California Yacht Club on Admiralty Way, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Fire crews arrived on scene to heavy fire and smoke billowing from the building, and it was quickly upgraded to a 2nd alarm fire before it was eventually extinguished. The injured male firefighters were taken to the hospital with moderate injuries, but additional details about their injuries were not known. The California Yacht Club started back in 1922. The former owner told Eyewitness News that his father helped build the Marina del Rey building over 50 years ago. KABC-TV ABC 7 LOS ANGELES Massachusetts fire captain has written a children's Christmas book promoting fire safety "Twas the night before Christmas in the firehouse, not an alarm bell ringing, not one fire to douse…" Thus begins "A Firehouse's Night Before Christmas," a modern-day, safety-oriented retelling of Clement Clarke Moore's "A Visit from St. Nicholas," by Northborough and Maynard firefighter Michael Parr. "It started while sitting around the firehouse around the holidays and I started thinking about 'Twas the Night Before Christmas,'" said Parr, 39, who lives in Northborough. "It was just kind of a fun-hearted, jokey thing, but I kept playing with it. I tried to adapt it as closely to the original poem as I could." Parr grew up surrounded by firefighters — his father, David Parr, was Wakefield's fire chief and his uncle was also a firefighter. Michael Parr started as a call firefighter in Wakefield before joining the Maynard Fire Department almost 10 years ago. METRO WEST DAILY NEWS - METERED SITE New York building collapse: 2 injuries reported as cleanup, investigation begins VIDEOS/PHOTOS: Firefighters scoured a mound of rubble to ensure no one was trapped Monday evening after a corner of a seven-story Bronx apartment building collapsed, leaving apartments exposed like a stack of shelves and a convenience store partly buried under bricks and wood. The collapse happened at 1915 Billingsley Terrace near West Burnside Avenue in the Morris Heights neighborhood around 3:30 p.m. Firefighters used buckets, power tools and heavy equipment to pick through the debris, while officials kept a watchful eye on the portions of the building that remained standing. "Our main objective is to get to the bottom of that pile," Fire Department Chief of Department John Hodgens said at a news conference. "We'll be here until it's down to the street level, just to make sure if there are any victims under there, hopefully we can get to them in time." WNYW-TV FOX 5 NEW YORK CITY Firefighters in one Colorado city now using wristband tool to better communicate with hospitals VIDEO: Colorado Springs firefighters are reflecting on how to better communicate with local hospitals after Club Q. 11 News spoke with the Colorado Springs Fire Department one year after Club Q, which has rolled out a tracking technology by Pulsara. Firefighters put wristbands on patients, connecting to an app, which gives real-time information to hospitals so medical staff can prepare. This is especially important for mass casualty events like Club Q. "One learning point that we garnered from Club Q was that we didn't make good communication with the hospital. We could have done a better job at that. They should be able to prepare and estimate how many patients they have, the severity, and this new application with the arm bands is going to help us do that," said CSFD company officer and Lt. Jeremiah Heddings. KKTV CBS 11 COLORADO SPRINGS PREVIOUS NATIONAL NEWS |
