An East Texas firefighter has died following an off-duty crash. According to the Winona Volunteer Fire Department, Lt. Joseph Boehm, 29, was killed in a wreck that occurred Saturday night. It is with heavy and broken hearts we share the unexpected off-duty death of Lieutenant Joseph Boehm. The WVFD says Boehm had been a member of the department since 2021 and was promoted to lieutenant in 2023. "He was awarded Rookie of the year his first year of service, and firefighter of the year the last two years in a row," the WVFD said. "He leaves behind his loving wife, three children, extended family members, and his firefighter family." Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Thursday, February 22, at Stewart Funeral Home in Tyler.

Investigators with the Lubbock Fire Marshal's Office are working to determine the cause of a large house fire Monday morning. Just after 7 a.m., deputies responded to a home on fire near East 2nd and Olive in Northeast Lubbock County. Multiple fire departments were called to assist including Roosevelt, Idalou and the Buffalo Springs Lake Fire Department. All occupants were safely evacuated and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Sources confirmed this particular home is where Lubbock County deputies found the body of a murdered woman more than six years ago. On February 5, 2018, 20-year-old Katrina Castillo was discovered bound and brutally stabbed in the backyard of the home. Investigators later named Xavier Garcia as her killer.

For the second time in two months, San Antonio firefighters have extinguished a fire at the same Northwest Side address. In the latest case, flames caused damage to at least two cars and a backyard shed, located at the corner of Maiden Lane and Brandywine Street. San Antonio firefighters responded to the blaze at around 2:15 a.m. Monday. Firefighters put out the fire before it could spread to any other nearby homes. However, two other vehicles parked near the shed had paint damage. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time, but firefighters were previously called out to this property for a house fire. In that case, the house was a total loss. That home went up in flames on Dec. 20, sending the people who lived there running for safety.

A 500-gallon underground propane tank was found at a Virginia home that exploded Friday, killing one firefighter and injuring others, officials said Saturday. Loudoun County Fire and Rescue were called to the home in Sterling around 7:40 p.m. for a gas leak, Chief Keith Johnson said at a news conference. The tank was leaking propane that "had migrated into the homes," he said. Firefighters were inside when the home exploded, Fire and Rescue Assistant Chief of Operations James Williams previously said. "Total devastation," is how Williams described the scene and damage. "There's a debris field well into the street and into the neighboring homes." Officials initially said nine firefighters suffered injuries that ranged from serious to less severe.

VIDEO: The City of Tampa unveiled eight new vehicles on Monday as part of a multi-million dollar investment in fire safety. "We've been waiting for quite some time and it really is a milestone," Tampa Mayor Jane Castor said. The city showed off eight new additions to its fleet, including three new fire engines, three advanced life support ambulances and two new Ambu-buses that can be used for mass casualty events and evacuations. The new vehicles are part of a $127 million investment in new vehicles for Tampa Fire Rescue, but just getting the new vehicles has not been easy. "Well, one of the biggest challenges is of course the manufacturers," Tampa Fire Rescue Chief Barbara Tripp said. "Where it used to take eight to 12 months for new apparatus, not it's taking us 24 to 36 months."

VIDEO/PHOTOS: The New York Rangers decided to arrive in New York style at MetLife Stadium ahead of their Stadium Series game against the New York Islanders on Sunday afternoon. The Rangers arrived in East Rutherford, New Jersey, accompanied by members of the FDNY and NYPD while wearing jerseys for each first responders' hockey clubs. Each player walking into the arena was next to either an NYPD officer or FDNY firefighter after traveling to the game on firetrucks and in police cars. The NHL's annual Stadium Series found its way to MetLife Stadium for the second straight day after the New Jersey Devils and Philadelphia Flyers played on Saturday night, with the home Jersey team taking the 6-3 victory. Of course, this game counts like any other regular-season contest, but each team is trying to soak everything in during this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
