Frisco promotes interim fire chief to fire chief The city of Frisco is naming the interim chief of the fire department to the position permanently. Lee Glover, who has served as interim chief since September 2022, was promoted to Frisco Fire Chief on Monday effective immediately. "Lee's combination of experience, knowledge and leadership was the best fit for the department," said Wes Pierson, city manager. "I believe Lee is deeply committed to the success of Team Frisco and will work hard to serve our community and members of FFD." Glover started his career with the Frisco Fire Department in 1991. He served as an assistant chief from 2009-2022 before being named the interim chief. "I'm truly honored to be chosen as the next Fire Chief of Frisco," said Glover. "We will continue to provide outstanding fire and emergency medical services. But we'll also focus on fire prevention, too. We'll continue to adhere to the highest standards and be a department our residents, businesses and all our employees are proud of." KXAS-TV NBC 5 FORT WORTH VIDEO: Perryton Fire/EMS station destroyed by EF-3 tornado The Perryton Fire/EMS station is destroyed after an EF-3 tornado struck the town on Thursday evening, and now the department is looking for a new location. Perryton Fire Chief Paul Dutcher said two firefighters were on duty when the tornado hit. "They did manage to make it into the storm shelter into the stairwell. So they were pretty lucky," Dutcher said. "Of course, the police dispatcher was sitting in the dispatch center. She's not hurt. She was really shaken but she's, she's doing fine." Dutcher said their fire trucks and ambulances are damaged, and the units by the bay doors are in the worst condition. "The garage doors collapsed in on them, busting out the windshield, busting out the, crushing the top of the cab. And then we had the brick wall that fell and collapsed on the other fire truck and did severe damage to it." KAMR-TV NBC 4 AMARILLO Arson cases in Austin up 25 percent this year, investigators say The sentencing hearing for a man who pleaded guilty to a hate crime and set an Austin synagogue on fire in 2021 is on Friday, June 23. This comes as arson cases are up this year in Austin. Franklin Sechriest was caught on surveillance video approaching the Congregation Beth Israel Synagogue with incendiary items on Halloween in 2021. Then, Sechriest was spotted leaving after starting a fire. Investigators said evidence was also found in a personal journal. On Oct. 28, 2021, an entry contained the phrase, ‘scout a target.' That same day, Sechriest's car was caught on surveillance footage. The night of the fire, another entry read, ‘I set a synagogue on fire.' Austin Fire Captain Brandon Jennings said they knew this fire was arson. "Cameras help everything," he said. KTBC-TV FOX 7 AUSTIN Search & rescue teams compete in 75th IRECA competition in College Station Search and rescue teams from across the United States and locally in Bryan participated in the 75th International Rescue and Emergency Care Association (IRECA) at The Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) in College Station for a week of extensive rescue challenges. "I'm still fairly new to all this kind of stuff, but it's complicated and challenging so I think that's what draws a lot of firefighters to being firefighters is the challenging aspect of it," said James Menger, firefighter/paramedic, Bryan Fire Department. James Menger, a Bryan firefighter and paramedic of five years, is eager to serve his community and become more efficient in saving lives. "This is a competition year, so it adds a little bit of stress to training so we're learning a lot and getting better at what we do as far as patient care and rescue," said Menger. Video shows another look at Missouri warehouse days after massive fire New video from NewsChopper 9 shows what's left of a warehouse following a four-alarm fire last week. It took nearly 24 hours for Kansas City firefighters to get the fire at Pioneer Pallet under control. Three firefighters were hospitalized with injuries and nearly 200 were needed to combat it. Flames shot up more than 100-feet in the air at the peak of the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by authorities. Investigators say the fire started in a shipping container in the Pioneer Pallet Company's yard. KMBC-TV ABC 9 KANSAS CITY Amputee firefighter in Massachusetts back on the job after motorcycle crash nearly killed him VIDEO/PHOTOS: Impossible means nothing to one firefighter in Lawrence, Massachusetts, who is now back to the job he loves after a serious injury nearly killed him. The amputee is officially suiting up, fulltime. "Firefighting means everything to me," said Miguel Baez, who has worked at the department for more than two decades. "I believe my accident is a blessing. I believe that I'm here for a reason." His near-death experience happened in August of 2021, when Baez got into a motorcycle accident. "I lost my leg on impact. The motorcycle split my pelvis, catapulted me into the woods. I hit a bunch of trees," he said. "I opened-up my eyes, I was being introduced in the back of a helicopter. I remember seeing the red light and seeing the propeller." According to Baez, a passerby found him and called 911. KAMR-TV NBC 4 AMARILLO New software allows 911 callers to livestream video to police and fire dispatchers in one Ohio city PHOTOS: Typically, when people call 911 in emergencies, communication with a dispatcher is limited to voice only. But those calling the Ravenna police and fire dispatch center with a cellphone now have the option of providing dispatchers with a livestream video of an incident, thanks to new software. "We wanted a different way for our communities to talk to 9-1-1, and this way we can communicate real-time information that we can share with responders.," said Assistant Chief of Police Jake Smallfield in a media release. "Besides using this new technology for Police Emergencies within the City, we are also able to utilize this for the 8 Fire/EMS Departments we dispatch for." This means that not only will people reporting emergencies in the city potentially benefit from it, but also those in areas covered by the Charlestown, Deerfield, Edinburg, Palmyra, Paris, Rootstown and Windham fire departments, which the city dispatches for in addition to the Ravenna Fire Department.
