KETK-TV NBC 56 JACKSONVILLE Antique fire truck returned to Port Lavaca Fire Department PHOTO: After more than five decades, a piece of Port Lavaca history has finally come home. A fire engine once belonging to the Port Lavaca Fire Department (PLFD) has found its way back into the city's hands. The vehicle, which dates to the late ‘40s, was sold to a private collector where it was held until recently being donated by Philip Gonzales and Colt Daniels. "We first saw the truck when we were doing a check-up on a smoke and sprinkler system. We had been trying to get into the building for some time, and when I saw a bunch of cars parked outside, I decided to see if anyone was there," said PLFD Fire Chief Joe Reyes. "I met a gentleman who said that while he didn't own the building, he did purchase everything inside. I asked if I could look around, and I found the truck there." THE PORT LAVACA WAVE County officials praise fire crews for containing 90-acre Jasper 4295 Fire in Jasper County Multiple fire departments have nearly contained a wildfire in Jasper County that broke out Monday afternoon. The "Jasper 4295" Fire is 95% contained and burned 90 acres, according to the Texas A&M Forest Service website. This fire took place near the same area of the 417-acre "Gist Road" Fire that happened last month. As soon as the wildfire erupted near Gist Road around 2:30 p.m., Orange County Judge John Gothia says he made a call to Jasper County Judge Mark Allen. "He was already aware of it as well we were just starting to coordinate our efforts, getting our fire responders up here, and the forest service they were very quick to respond," Gothia said. With only about a mile between the fire and the Orange County line, Judge Allen says his concern was the fast-spreading flames. KBMT-TV ABC/NBC 12 BEAUMONT Fire Event in Palo Pinto County Encourages Young Women to Explore a Career in Wildland Firefighting Texas A&M Forest Service hosted the third annual Sisters in Fire event Sept. 30 at Worth Ranch, a Longhorn Council BSA property. Thirty-five young women between the ages of 13 and 18 from 22 Texas counties and one Oklahoma county attended the event. "The Sisters in Fire program was created to introduce young women to wildland firefighting and natural resource careers," said Emily Mitchell, Sisters in Fire Incident Commander. "This year we had women from across the state of Texas and one from Kansas who are introducing their professions and passions to the young women of Texas." Participants were split into squads, or teams, for the day and rotated through four stations. KSST-AM 1230 SULPHUR SPRINGS PREVIOUS STATE NEWS |

VIDEO: Fire at recreation rental business sends smoke plume above San Diego A large cloud of smoke billowed above Mission Bay on Monday afternoon after a building caught on fire at Campland by the Bay. The two-alarm fire began in Adventure Water Sports, a recreation rental business near the beach of the campground located at 2211 Pacific Beach Drive. By 2:25 p.m., San Diego Fire-Rescue firefighters on the ground were gaining control over the flames, which had engulfed the structure. A hook-and-ladder was also on the scene hitting the fire with a water cannon. "I saw a significant amount of smoke, I saw it going dark, black pretty quickly, it made me think this was something petroleum-based related," SDFD Chief Jared Daneen said. The building, which was empty at the time the fire sparked, stored golf carts, electric and manual pedal bikes and other rentable equipment, according to Daneen. KNSD-TV NBC 7 SAN DIEGO Mass overdose at Oregon park the most the local fire department has seen during a single call, official says VIDEO: Portland police responded to eight people who overdosed on Monday morning in the Pearl District, near the North Park Blocks. Officers said the people ingested a powder likely laced with fentanyl. The overdoses happened in the area of Northwest Couch Street and Park Avenue, among the North Park Blocks. Firefighters and paramedics responded around 10 a.m. with ambulances to transport victims. All eight people were given the opioid overdose reversal medication Narcan. Four people were taken to the hospital. The other four victims refused to be transported, according to police. According to Rick Graves, spokesman for Portland Fire & Rescue, the people who overdosed were all young — ranging from their late teens to early 20s. KGW-TV NBC 8 PORTLAND New York house 'ablaze' with Halloween spirit, sparks false fire alarm VIDEO: A call to a reported house fire in Glens Falls over the weekend turned out to be something else-- just in time for the Halloween season. Check this out-- that's the home... It looks like a massive fire in the windows. But it's actually Halloween decorations-- some lights, a fan, a fog machine and a silver sheet. The Glens Falls fire department doesn't appear bothered by the false alarm, calling it an "amazing" display. But it did spark some controversy in the Facebook comments-- one person saying they should have notified the fire department to avoid false calls. The home on Sanford Street will be lit up on Friday and Saturday nights through the end of the month. WRGB-TV CBS 6 SCHENECTADY A nationwide emergency alert will be sent to all U.S. cellphones Wednesday A nationwide test of the emergency and wireless alert systems will be conducted Wednesday at 2:20 p.m. ET, when a message will be sent to all cellphones, TVs and radios.
