Enormous fire destroys luxury apartment building in San Antonio VIDEO: An orange glow could be seen in far north Bexar County as firefighters responded to high flames at an apartment complex on Saturday night. Hundreds of people watched around 9 p.m. as part of the Anthony at Canyon Springs apartments on Wilderness Oak was lost to a roaring fire. One resident says fire crews took awhile to get the fire down as video shows flames bursting through the roof of one building. "We were looking at the horizon and we thought it was in another neighborhood and we see this explosion like flames bursts and it was like over and over. It took them awhile to get the fire down." The resident said evacuations were underway as fire crews had ladders on the windows to assist in taking people out. "I think it was very upsetting. Heartbreaking to see those people crying. Everything they love was in those buildings. Sad to see." KENS-TV CBS 5 SAN ANTONIO Game Preserve Fire north of Huntsville is now 70% contained after 4 days, according to officials VIDEO: A wildfire that broke out on Friday just north of Huntsville is now 70% contained after four days, according to officials. In an update shortly before 9 p.m. on Monday, the Texas A&M Forest Service updated its website, used to monitor the fire's progress, to say that containment has reached 70%. According to the Walker County Office of Emergency Management, the wildfire erupted at about 2 p.m. on Friday in a wooded area along Lost Indian Camp Road just off FM-247. The county's OEM recommended an evacuation for everything within three miles of Lost Indian Camp Road. Elsewhere, an evacuation order was called out by the New Waverly Fire Department to residents of Pinedale. It reportedly grew 10 times its size in a matter of just three hours. On Sunday, the Game Preserve Fire was burning at 4,426 acres, the Texas A&M Forest Service said. KTRK-TV ABC 13 HOUSTON Belton offering training courses for emergency response volunteers Fire crews across Central Texas continue to be in high demand as wildfires rage throughout the state, and Belton Community Emergency Response Team is aiming to get some more hands on deck when major fires or any natural disaster strikes. The Belton Community Emergency Response Team, or CERT, is providing a training course that will educate residents and teach them skills that will help them save themselves and others in desperate situations. "We really felt it was important that we develop a program that engaged our citizens and that gave them the tools to be able to help themselves if something really bad happened," Belton Fire Chief Jon Fontenot said. The 8-week course teaches volunteers how to help with fires, medical disasters, search and rescue, and tornado recovery. KWTX-TV CBS 10 WACO 'Pretty brutal': Wildfires taking a toll on Jasper County volunteer firefighters Firefighters have been working nonstop to keep Southeast Texas communities safe as wildfires continue to be a massive threat to the area. On Labor Day, crews were battling a 300-acre fire in the Cairo Springs Community near county road 633 near Buna. Many of these firefighters are actually volunteers who are trying to balance their duties, their families and their professional lives, all at once. "The last few months have been, uh, pretty brutal," Beech Grove Fire Chief James Gunter said. The Beech Grove Volunteer Fire Department has been on the frontlines of many fires in the past few weeks. "These calls are getting drug out. What used to be a 30-minute call is now a three-hour call. It's just that these dry conditions turn these into extended events," Gunter said. 2 killed in apparent street race crash into firetruck in California; 4 crewmembers injured VIDEO: A driver and passenger were killed in an apparent street race when their vehicle crashed into a firetruck, injuring four crewmembers, in West Compton Tuesday. The crash was reported around 12:30 a.m. as the engine company was responding to a medical incident, Los Angeles County Fire Department spokesperson Craig Little said. The truck was traveling down Avalon Boulevard when it was hit by the civilian vehicle traveling on Compton Boulevard, Little said. Four crewmembers were transported to a local hospital with non-critical injuries. "Unfortunately, the two members of the civilian vehicle were fatalities," he said. The victims were identified by a California Highway Patrol spokesperson as a man and a woman who were both about 30 years old. KTLA-TV CW 5 LOS ANGELES Arizona mom wakes up to find her 12-year-old son on fire after TikTok challenge VIDEO: A very scary situation, a 12-year-old boy now hospitalized after partaking in a TikTok challenge went wrong. "I woke up to him just screaming and I woke up so fast that I kicked the dog gate out of my door frame, and then I saw him, he was on fire," Tiffany Roper mother of 12-year-old boy said. Tiffany Roper recalls the horrifying night last week when she discovered her youngest child Corey wearing a polyester shirt that lit on fire. In her shock, she rushed to her son's aid. "I ended up grabbing my hose faucet from my sink and just spraying him down with water and flooding my kitchen until 9-1-1 got there," Roper said. "Unfortunately, my daughter heard it as well, so she woke up and got a towel and soaked in cold water and put it over him to try to help with the burns." KPNX-TV NBC 12 MESA Maryland fire station damaged after ambulance ignites in engine bay, officials say VIDEO/PHOTOS: A Prince George's County fire station was damaged after an ambulance caught fire early Sunday morning, the agency said. "We do have our share of fires in Prince George's County, but running a fire within one of our own fire stations is very unique," Department Public Information Director Alan Doubleday said. "It doesn't happen very often." According to Doubleday, it's believed the fire started in the engine compartment of the ambulance--which is a total loss. "The ambulance did burn with so much intensity, that it scorched the side of Rescue Squad 20," Doubleday said. At 5:12 a.m., smoke alarms alerted eight firefighters at the Marlboro Volunteer Fire Department at 14915 Pratt Street station in Upper Marlboro. The ambulance was parked in the engine bay at the time the fire broke out, officials said. WJLA-TV ABC 7 WASHINGTON D.C. Step by step: First responders, residents honor 9/11 victims in Tennessee VIDEO/PHOTOS: The memory of the victims of the September 11th, 2001 attacks was on the minds of dozens of people at AT&T Field in Chattanooga Monday morning. With a week before the 22nd remembrance of that dark day, first responders and the public climbed stairs in their memory. 2,977 people lost their lives in the 9/11 terrorist attack. Some of them were firefighters who were trying to make their way to the top of the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center when it collapsed. "They will actually climb the equivalent of 110 stories, which is obviously what the World Trade Center was," says Britt Bradshaw, coordinator for the stair climb event. "We do have some new people that come every year, families have started coming." AT&T Field saw dozens walk along the stairs in honor of those firefighters.
