VIDEO: RVs, boats, classic car burned in Houston storage facility fire sparked by unattended candles, officials say An early morning fire that was sparked by unattended candles completely destroyed a boat and RV storage facility in north Houston. SkyEye video shows the aftermath of the massive fire at A-Safe-T Storage at 11539 N. Houston Rosslyn at Breen Drive, which is a total loss. Officials said the fire first started at 5:15 a.m. Wednesday. Several boats, RVs, and even a classic car went up in flames. Thankfully, nobody was hurt, but thousands of dollars were lost. "The candle was on top of a wooden dresser. The dresser caught on fire first, and once that caught on fire, anything that's flammable," District Chief Roland Silva with the Northwest Volunteer Fire Department said. "It was right next to an old converted school bus that was like their shop, a makeshift shop for them." Silva said two brothers renting the space to work were using the candles to light up a dark area. KTRK-TV ABC 13 HOUSTON Emergency responders train for mass burn scenario in Tyler How would East Texas first responders, hospitals, and others respond to a situation in which multiple people have suffered burns requiring specialized medical care? Answering that question was the goal of a mass burn surge drill hosted by the Piney Woods Regional Advisory Council (RAC-G) in Tyler on Tuesday morning. The RAC is a non-profit that links hospitals, EMS and first responders. According to Hospital Preparedness Manager Michael Johnson, an exercise like this is especially important for a region like East Texas, where there are no burn hospitals. "Because we do not have a burn hospital here in Tyler, we're going to have to count on other facilities outside our region to be able to care for those patients," Johnson said. "But if in the event that we don't have enough room to send them anywhere else, it's a challenge for them to decide how they are going to care for them." KLTV ABC 7 TYLER TEEX trains future EMS personnel to help fill industry shortage across the state VIDEO: Throughout the state of Texas and across the nation, there is a shortage for EMS personnel. At the Texas Engineering Extension Service — TEEX — students are training to enter the workforce to help fill the gap in the industry. Shanna Cramer is a retired U.S. Navy Seabee veteran of 12 years. She is originally from Louisiana, and comes to TEEX from Idaho. "I feel like at the end of this program, you could put me on a truck, and I would feel comfortable with being a lead or a lead paramedic on a truck," Cramer said. "We need to be empathetic and sympathetic at all times being back here, because it's the worst time of somebody's life if they are in the back of this truck." The program is nine months for paramedics, and eight weeks for EMT's if they choose to take day courses. KXXV-TV ABC 25 WACO Crane fire causes traffic delays in downtown Lubbock VIDEO: Emergency crews responded to a crane on fire on the Marsha Sharp Freeway Tuesday afternoon. Just after 1 p.m., first responders were called to a crane on fire on the MSF near Ave. Q. Pieces of debris and a tire from the crane fell from the overpass and into the grass below, causing another fire. All the fires were extinguished, according to officials. The intersection at the freeway and Ave. Q was closed to all traffic from University to the Interstate but has since been reopened. Just before 3 p.m., law enforcement issued another traffic alert stating the eastbound lanes of the MSF will be closed between the Ave. L exit and I-27 exit ramp. The closure was expected to last several hours. Motorists were urged to seek an alternate route. No one was injured in the incident. KCBD-TV NBC 11 LUBBOCK PREVIOUS STATE NEWS |

KTRK-TV ABC 13 HOUSTON Firefighters, others come together for ‘Ride to Remember' to honor lives lost in 1995 Oklahoma City bombing VIDEO: Oklahoma will never forget what happened 28 years ago. One hundred sixty-eight people died when terrorists detonated a bomb at the Alfred P. Murrah federal building in downtown Oklahoma City. The day forever changed the lives of many Oklahomans, including first responders. Now, every year around this time, firefighters and others come together for a "Ride to Remember." Motorcycle riders from near and far come together to remember. "I'll never forget it as long as I live," said Marty Thorne, retired Oklahoma City Fire Department, Wind and Fire Motorcycle Club member. Many are retired firefighters who responded to the bombing. "One of the things that caught my attention right away right out front of the Regency Apartments, was the axle from the Ryder truck that embedded in a vehicle that was parked outside The Regency Tower apartment," said Keith Bryant, retired OKCFD, Wind and Fire Motorcycle Club. KOCO-TV ABC 5 OKLAHOMA CITY Related: Oklahoma City bombing - the attack, the aftermath, and a city's resilience 2 Factors Contributed to Deadly New York City Parking Garage Collapse, Initial Findings Show VIDEOS: Investigators looking into the lower Manhattan parking garage that collapsed a day ago, killing one worker and hurting five others as concrete floors pancaked atop one another, say initial findings indicate the age of the building, and the number of vehicles parked on the roof deck, contributed to the disaster, officials said Wednesday. The Ann Street garage — which was originally constructed in 1925 -- obtained its certificate of occupancy in 1957. That certificate allowed for five or more cars to be on each floor — and footage from Tuesday's collapse showed well more than that on each level. Dozens of cars and SUVs were seen in the collapsed rubble. Investigators began to meticulously comb through the details Wednesday as the immediate area remained shut down. Wary of the danger of further collapse, officials warned their investigation would likely be exhaustive, and prolonged, meaning there's no telling when a final cause may be determined. Jacob Stevens' family made the difficult decision to say goodbye after the Greenfield teen spent nearly a week on a ventilator. WSYX in Columbus said Stevens was attempting what's been dubbed the "Benadryl Challenge" on TikTok. The trend tasks participants with taking between 12 and 14 tablets of the antihistamine, six times the recommended dose, to induce hallucinations. Stevens' family told WSYX that the teen was at home with his friends earlier this month when he overdosed. His friends were filming him down the tablets when his body began seizing. "No brain scan. There was nothing there. He said we could keep him on the vent — we could, you know, he could lay there like that but he will never open his eyes, he will never breathe on his own, do anything like that," Stevens' grandmother Dianna said.
