VIDEO: Dallas apartment building destroyed, residents displaced following massive 3-alarm fire PHOTOS: Numerous residents are displaced after a massive 3-alarm fire destroyed an apartment building on Dallas' Northeast Side. The fire started around 10 p.m. Tuesday at the Forest Hills Apartments off Forest Hills Lane near Interstate 635. When firefighters arrived, they saw flames shooting out of the 3-story building. They immediately evacuated the neighboring buildings as the fire intensified. A second and third alarm was requested due to the size of the fire. A total of about 70 firefighters were on scene trying to get it under control. The American Red Cross will be working with apartment management to help the displaced residents. No injuries to firefighters or residents were reported at this time. Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the fire. WOAI-TV NBC 4 SAN ANTONIO At least 4 people injured in fire at Prairie View A&M dorm building At least four people, including three Prairie View A&M University students, were injured during a fire in a dorm building early Wednesday morning. Fire officials told ABC13 that it was an air conditioning fire that started in the hallway on the third floor. The fire was contained to the hallway, firefighters said. At least three students were injured, officials said. Two were rescued from a ledge by firefighters and taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation, while a third student jumped out of the building from the third floor. Firefighters said the student who jumped from the third floor suffered a leg injury. A police officer who ran into the building to get students was also reportedly treated for smoke inhalation. "I see a girl hanging off the ledge, another one on the floor, another one's skin bleeding," a student told ABC13's Brhe Berry. KTRK-TV ABC 13 HOUSTON Texas Task Force on Concert Safety releases final report in wake of deadly Astroworld Festival VIDEO: The task force put in place in the wake of the deadly Astroworld Festival has released its final report that includes "recommendations and strategies to ensure the safety of concertgoers" in Texas, according to Gov. WFAA-TV ABC 8 DALLAS Harris County Fire Department to Host Katy's First All-Girls Firefighter and EMS Summer Camp Harris County ESD No. 48 Fire-EMS (HCESD48) will host Camp Spark this summer, Katy's first all-girls firefighter and EMS camp. The camp will be free and designed to educate and inspire a new generation of female first responders. When at a Community Risk Reduction conference, Jason Tharp HCESD48 Battalion Chief of Community Risk Reduction and Public Information Officer heard another department mention that they had done an all-girls camp. He was immediately intrigued by the idea and started to think how his department could introduce the Katy area to such a camp. "We see a lot of young boys that want to be firefighters, police, and professional sports players. They often dress up for Halloween and play in the costume until it no longer fits, I know my boys did, but what about our young ladies?" says Tharp. KATY MAGAZINE NEWS College Station Citizens Fire Academy wrapping up with real world experience The College Station Citizens Fire Academy is approaching the end of its session, which means participants will try their hand at fighting a real fire. On Tuesday, the group practiced what it was like to find their way through an unknown area with no lights and full firefighting gear. Next, they had to search for a decoy person inside a building filled with smoke. This is a group of 15 average citizens, who wanted to learn what it took to do the job. William Wright said he is grateful for the people that dedicate their lives to the job and has a new appreciation for them. "I'm very excited about the maze tonight and then the live burn on Saturday just kind of the culmination of all of our knowledge to see what we learned and how we can put it to use and it also just gets us one step closer to what the firefighters deal with every day so it'll just be nice to really feel like we're in their shoes," Wright said. Blaze at Georgia storage facility sends 5 firefighters to hospital VIDEO: An Augusta firefighter is still in the hospital Tuesday after a storage facility fire on Monday. Firefighters continue to check to make sure the fire does not start back up. They say there are steps to help reduce the risk of something like this from happening. We spoke with one storage facility owner down the street, who says this is something out of a nightmare. Smoke could be seen from the highway as firefighters worked to contain a raging storage facility fire at Simply Self Storage. "My heart just sank," said Max Vallotton. Vallotton saw the smoke on his drive into work. He's the owner of Gate 5 Self Storage. "It was definitely a nightmare. The smoke was just very heavy and very black smoke, and I just cringed," he said. After doing this for 16 years, it makes him think about what could happen. WRDW-TV CBS 12 AUGUSTA How New Jersey firefighters saved 6 teenagers trapped in trampoline park elevator PHOTOS: It's still sort of a mystery how six New Jersey teenagers fresh from the Rockin' Jump Trampoline Park in Wayne on Friday got stuck in an exit elevator. But Wayne Fire Department Commissioner William Rodriguez has a pretty good theory. "They've got that jumping still in their system. And when they get in the elevator and they talk about their experience inside," Rodriguez told Coffee or Die Magazine, "they may start jumping in the elevator, which whacks out the elevator." They whacked it out so well that the car got stuck in the 50-foot elevator shaft, and no one from the first or penthouse floors could reach them. Rodriguez and a cop were the first ones to arrive on scene at roughly 5:10 p.m. Rodriguez tried flipping the elevator's main power switch off, waiting 10 seconds, and then clicking it back on. COFFEE OR DIE MAGAZINE Flood Forecasting Still A Challenge Since Historic 1997 Flood & Fire in North Dakota VIDEO: Twenty-five years ago, floodwaters could no longer be held back in Grand Forks and East Grand Forks leading to catastrophic loss of property. It's something people who lived there will never forget. One man who still lives in Grand Forks was part of the National Weather Service at the time, a place some people and politicians blamed for a bad flood prediction. Never mind the wet cycle and record-breaking snowfall of just under 100 inches that season, leading to the Flood of the Century. The images today are as shocking as they were, playing out in real time, 25 years ago. The Grand Cities under siege by the rising Red River of the North. President Bill Clinton visited to see the damage days later and said, "The next few days are going to be very, very hard on a lot of people."
