"Robert and his OEM team will ensure the City of Fort Worth properly plans for disasters and supports our community through disaster preparedness, response, recovery and the coordination of information and resources," Davis said. Medford is an accomplished leader with 30 years of combined experience in fire and emergency services and emergency management. He served as the fire chief/emergency manager for the City of Camden, Arkansas, Fire Department from 2003 until 2016, where he focused on community education, business resiliency, continuity of service initiatives and community risk reduction programs. CITY OF FORT WORTH Dallas Firefighters Museum damaged in floods VIDEO/PHOTOS: While firefighters rushed to save people when floodwaters rose across North Texas last week, the Dallas Firefighters Museum across from Fair Park was damaged. "We had a drain pipe upstairs that stopped up and it just started filling the place with water," said Sherrie Wilson of the museum. "We've just been trying to control the damage at this point." The building which once held Old Fire Station Number 5 on Parry Street has been home to the Firefighters Museum for 50 years. Historical artifacts inside the building were taken to a special place to try to be saved. "I think we've been able to save most of the equipment, that's still to be seen though. We're gonna have to look at things some things may have to be painted or retouched up. I think for the most part the fire department did a good job of coming in here and helping clean this out," said Wilson. KDFW-TV FOX 4 DALLAS DPS identifies woman killed, paramedics hurt in major crash involving ambulance in Smith County One person is dead and another is injured following a major crash involving an ambulance that closed a portion of Toll 49 in Smith County. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash occurred just south of Farm-to-Market Road 16 and Lindale. The preliminary crash investigation indicates a UT Health ambulance, driven by paramedic Jacob Mocny, 22, of Quitman, was headed northbound on Toll 49. At the same time, a passenger vehicle, driven by Laina Wanttie, 51, of Mineola, was traveling southbound on Toll 49. DPS says Wanttie lost control, crossed over into the northbound lane and struck the ambulance. Mocny and another paramedic, identified as Ricky Eversult, 55, of Emory, were taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Wanttie was pronounced dead at the scene by Judge Mitch Shamburger. KYTX-TV CBS/CW+ 19 NACOGDOCHES Mom, daughters make it safely out of Lufkin duplex fire VIDEO: A family was displaced from their home by a fire on Tuesday night. According to Jessica Pebsworth with the City of Lufkin, a mother and her daughters, aged 12 and 15, lost everything in the fire that burned their Gatewood Lane duplex. They did not have renters insurance, Pebsworth said. The Red Cross has been called in to assist the family. Firefighters responded shortly after 8 p.m. to find the home engulfed in flames. The family was out safely and spoke with our reporter at the scene, telling him that they think the dryer started the fire. One of the daughters went out to check on the laundry and it was on fire, she said. The other side of the duplex was vacant, Pebsworth said. The cause is under investigation by the Lufkin Fire Marshal's office but it does not appear to be suspicious. KLTV ABC 7 TYLER Montague County firefighters attend training for ascending, hauling and packaging patients Firefighters from four local fire departments recently participated in a 40-hour course of training Aug. 13-14 and Aug. 27-28 at the Tarrant County College Fire Academy. Crews from Sunset Volunteer Fire Department, City of Bowie fire, Bowie Rural fire and Nocona fire took part. Nathan Wilson, captain in the SVFD, said it was a great experience training together, building teamwork and camaraderie while expanding their knowledge and skills to better serve the citizens of Montague County. During the training they practiced lowering, hauling, patient packaging and ascending ropes, often working up in the air from buildings. Wilson said the final test was a very involved scenario that had a target completion time of three hours. "We completed it in two hours and 10 minutes. Everyone worked really well together. It was a great experience to bring people from different departments together," said Captain Wilson. BOWIE NEWS Stained glass art installed at Odessa Fire Station No. 9 VIDEO: Odessa's Fire Station No. 9 currently stands out from the others, with the windows being colorful stained glass. Executive Director of Odessa Arts, Randy Ham, said he loves art having the power to take several forms. "People think of art on buildings as murals or statues, so we wanted to do something a little bit different and actually incorporate the art into the structure of the building," Ham said. Fire Station No. 9 on 87th in North Odessa is almost ready to open, with the two stained glass art pieces being the newest addition, made possible by Odessa Arts. "We wanted to do something that incorporated art into the building and gave not only the public a sense of pride, but also the firefighters that are working at that station day after day, we want them to feel good about being there," Ham said. Massachusetts home considered a ‘total loss' after fire rips through roof, causing partial collapse VIDEO: At least eight people are without a home after a large fire burned through a multi-family house in Lynn on Tuesday. Crews were called to the home on Allerton Street sometime after 5 p.m., where footage from Sky7 showed large sections of the multi-story building's roof engulfed in flames. At one point, Lynn Fire pulled their crews from the building, as both the roof and attic showed signs they were going to collapse. Concerns were heightened further by a tall chimney stack swaying as the building burned. "We were very nervous about the chimney, because the chimney looked like it was leaning to one side," said Lynn Fire Chief Michael McBride. "So we were nervous that was going to come down, so we started pulling. As soon as the roof came down, we started pulling our guys out because it was too dangerous to fight the fire inside." WHDH-TV ABC 7 BOSTON New Mexico first responders prepare to row across the Atlantic Ocean to raise mental health awareness VIDEO: A team of three Farmington first responders are getting ready to compete in an international race, but this isn't an ordinary race – it's a trip across the Atlantic Ocean on a row boat. 45 teams will row from Africa to the Caribbean in December. The goal of the first responders is not to win, but rather to raise awareness for an important Four Corners cause. First responders and founders of Guardians Initiatives, are willing to go the extra mile to promote mental wellness for first responders. "On average, most first responders die by suicide each year than by the risks of the job you know all the training we do tactics wise, yet our mental wellness can be more of a risk to us," Mark Pfetzer, SJCSO Captain and co-founder of Guardian Initiatives. To get the word out, Pfetzer came up with something that would make a big splash. KOB-TV NBC 4 ALBUQUERQUE Los Angeles County takes step to ensure crash photos are never leaked again, following Kobe Bryant incident The 2020 helicopter crash in the hills of Calabasas that took the lives of NBA Lakers legend Kobe Bryant, his 13-year-old daughter Gianna; Sarah and Payton Chester; Keri, John and Alyssa Altobelli; Christina Mauser, and pilot Ara Zobayan sent shock waves across the world. But the unimaginable pain and grief sustained by Bryant's widow, Vanessa Bryant, was compounded when graphic photos from the crash scene were shared by Los Angeles County deputies and firefighters with each other, some of their spouses, and in one instance with a bartender at a bar where a deputy was drinking. On Tuesday, Aug. 30, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors passed a motion with a basic question: How can the county Sheriff's Department and Fire Department prevent this kind of conduct from happening again? LOS ANGELES DAILY NEWS - METERED SITE Overdose Awareness Day: ‘4 to 6 minutes is all we have to get there' Aug. 31 is Overdose Awareness Day, and News4JAX is teaming up with local organizations hoping to save lives. The main culprit behind the surge in overdose cases we're seeing in our area is fentanyl. As Director of Pharmacy at Orange Park Hospital, Dr. Jodie Graves works to save lives every day. But one life that couldn't be saved was that of her adult stepdaughter. News4JAX is only identifying her by her first name, Angela. After a years-long battle with addiction, Angela (pictured below with Graves) overdosed and died last year. "It didn't come unexpected," Graves said. "It was a death pill. One in 10 pills out there is what you call a death pill." Graves said Angela's struggle took a toll on the entire family, including her father. Angela was a loving mother, sister and daughter. But behind the scenes, her drug abuse was tearing the family apart. WJXT-TV NEWS 4 JACKSONVILLE Polaris issues 'stop ride/sale' order on 230,000 snowmobiles due to fire issue Polaris Inc. announced that 230,000 snowmobiles need to be checked again by authorized dealers due to a fire hazard from faulty fuel tanks. The company determined that degraded fuel and extended storage increases the likelihood of an incident to occur from static discharge within the snowmobile tank. It affects snowmobiles with the model year 2021-2023 MATRYX, 2015-2022 AXYS and select model year 2013-2014 Trail Performance (Pro-Ride). A "stop ride/stop sale order" has gone into effect. Polaris said they are working with the Consumer Product Safety Commission to address the situation further. Polaris has found that fuel tank issues have lead to 30 gas tank ruptures and 16 fires, with one injury being reported so far. The Minnesota-based company said those who have any of these models should stop using them immediately. BRING ME THE NEWS PREVIOUS NATIONAL NEWS |
