3 children taken to hospital after apartment fire, Houston Fire Department says VIDEO: Three children were taken to the hospital after an apartment fire in the Spring Branch area. Houston firefighters were called to a three-story apartment complex on Wirt Road at Long Point around 10:47 p.m. on Tuesday. Video from the scene showed large flames coming out of the roof of the building. The building was visibly charred with holes in the siding after the flames were extinguished. Firefighters said all three children were in stable condition with minor injuries on Wednesday morning. No firefighters were injured. Officials said six apartments at the complex were damaged in the fire. The Red Cross will be assisting the families that were displaced. Firefighters said the cause of the fire is under investigation. KTRK-TV ABC 13 HOUSTON Denison plans to build three new fire stations Denison Fire Rescue is drawing up plans to expand with the population. The department released a five year strategic plan and one item on that agenda is plans of building three new fire stations. There are currently three fire stations around the city. While there are no concrete plans, Fire Chief Kenneth Jacks said fire station four could be in the works in the next couple years, "we need a station four sooner than later, five and six is down the road when the population grows and the run volume necessitates us building those stations." Depending on growth and development, according to the strategic plan, fire station number four could be located along highway 75 and 91. KXII-TV CBS/MYNETWORKTV/FOX 12 SHERMAN Almost three dozen new firefighters graduate Granbury Volunteer Fire Department Fire Academy A slate of new firefighters recently graduated from the Granbury Volunteer Fire Department Fire Academy prepared to take the Firefighter 1 and Firefighter 2 certification tests. The 34 graduates will serve eight of the county's nine volunteer fire departments. Following graduation, each demonstrated their ability to fight structure fires, propane tank fires and car fires as friends and family watched. More than 50 rookies attended at least some of the training sessions put on by GVFD officers. The officers met the challenge of the large class size by revamping training plans. Under the leadership of Training Lieutenant Diego Guerrero, multiple topics were planned for each Saturday session, ensuring an optimal number of rookies per instructor at all times, according to a press release. HOOD COUNTY NEWS - METERED SITE Multiple fire crews respond to house fire in southwest Austin PHOTOS: The Austin Fire Department, Westlake Fire, and Oak Hill Fire responded to a fire that broke out at a house in Southwest Austin Tuesday night. The structure fire call came in at 9:24 p.m. in the 1800 block of Far Gallant Drive in the Davenport Ranch area. AFD said the house going under renovation was fully involved when they arrived on the scene. An adjacent house was initially threatened. Fire crews are checking adjoining homes to ensure no damage spread to them. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation. No other information is available at this time. KEYE-TV CBS 42 AUSTIN Structure fire at Greater Killeen Chamber of Commerce A fire has caused damages to the Greater Killeen Chamber of Commerce building, says the Killeen Fire Department. According to Killeen Fire Department Fire Chief James Kubinski, firefighters were dispatched to an outdoor fire at 6:43 on Tuesday, Dec. 6 after a call from a member of the public. Kubinksi said that units arrived on the scene of the fire within three minutes of the call, where they found that multiple portable toilets, A.K.A. porta-potties, were on fire. Kubinski stated that the porta-potties were up against the Chamber of Commerce building, and that the fire spread to an exterior wall of the building as well as the attic. According to Kubinski, 23 firefighters responded to the fire in general, and they had the fire extinguished approximately 12 minutes after they arrived on scene. KCEN-TV NBC 6 TEMPLE CPS Energy had to turn off power before firefighters could battle blaze at abandoned San Antonio building VIDEO: Electrical hazards made it difficult for firefighters to battle a blaze at a tool yard on the northeast side of town early Wednesday. It happened around 1:30 a.m. at the 10400 block of Tool Yard near Wurzbach Parkway at the North East Service Center. The building that caught fire was abandoned, but firefighters had to wait for CPS Energy to get there and shut off the power to the property before tackling the flames. Officials say that crews were on the scene for just over two hours hitting the hot spots and extinguishing the flammable material. No injuries were reported. VIDEO: Crews take control of fire at auto parts store in Florida Crews have taken control of a massive fire that broke out at an auto parts store in Hialeah. Hialeah and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crews arrived at the scene at Rastro Coco Auto Parts, located at 5171 E. 10th Court, just before 1 p.m., Tuesday. The fire has been mostly put out after crews worked for hours to douse the flames. 7Skyforce hovered over the scene where hundreds of cars were caught in the blaze, as thick black smoke billowed from the lot. Vivian Espino lives nearby. "Explode, explode, explode," she said describing a startling wake up call. She was taking an afternoon nap when, all of a sudden, the business down the street from her home in Hialeah went up in flames. Hialeah Fire Department Asst. Chief David Rodriguez said, "This is a junkyard, a big junkyard, it takes about half a city block, that was fully engulfed." WSVN-TV FOX 7 MIAMI Bat infestation at Nevada fire station so bad, department is abandoning building A Nevada fire department that closed one of its stations for an "undetermined amount of time" because of a bat infestation is now preparing to hand that station back over to the state and move to a new building. The Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District said in August that Fire Station 30, which dates back to the 1950s, was a "health and safety risk for crews." Bats were seen flying around the station's living quarters and dead bats were found in the apparatus bay, the district said at the time. The district had also tried to address bat problems in 2015, only for the bats to return. The station is about about 20 miles south of Reno, Nevada, and roughly 10 miles north of Carson City. It is leased to the fire protection district from the state of Nevada. CNN New technology in Colorado allows 911 callers to give dispatch access to phone camera VIDEO/PHOTOS: The next time you have an emergency that demands the aid of 911, you may be asked to help dispatchers and first responders by video chatting through your phone. A new software being rolled out throughout parts of Colorado now gives 911 dispatchers the ability to access a caller's cellphone cameras after being given permission by the user. LETA 911, an organization that helps organize and oversee dispatch communications throughout Larimer County in northern Colorado, has partnered with a company named Prepared Live, which allows dispatchers to use the video aspect of 911 calls. Larimer County Sheriff Justin Smith and his office were among the first to sign up to adopt the software in their dispatch center and begin using it with callers. The software has already been used multiple times by the sheriff's office which has saved money, resources and lives on several calls for help. Birdie goes to dog camp at Dogwoods Lodge in Grimes. "She just arrived for day camp and was just bouncing around and bounced into the fire alarm, pushed it in, pulled it down and that was it," said Jessica Tapper, owner of Dogwoods Lodge. Video from Dogwoods Lodge's security camera shows the moment Birdie jumped up excitedly, but accidentally hitting the alarm, which prompted a visit from firefighters. Staff with Dogwoods Lodge in Grimes posted an image on Facebook showing Birdie with a sign around her neck saying, "I'm sorry I pulled the fire alarm today." KYOU-TV FOX/NBC/CW+ 15 OTTUMWA Massachusetts firefighter asks public for help after his car, gear stolen PHOTOS: A Lawrence firefighter is turning to the public for help after his car and department helmet were stolen in Wilmington. Firefighter Patrick Sweeney told Boston 25 News he parked his car in the back of the Regency Place around 10 p.m. on Sunday night and woke up Monday morning to his Dodge Charger HellCat missing from the lot. Sweeney said his work gear and helmet, with his grandfather's dog tags engraved in it, were in the trunk of the Charger. "I don't even care about the car, I really only care about my helmet," Sweeney said. "A firefighter's helmet is like his personality, everything else can be replaced."
