The cause of the fire remains under investigation. WFAA-TV ABC 8 DALLAS Community mourns death of former Farmersville fire chief Farmersville lost one of its beloved community leaders Sunday. Kim Morris died Sunday, Dec. 18, at the age of 71 following a heart attack. Perhaps most well-known as the Farmersville Fire Department Chief until his retirement in October 2021, Morris was much more to those who knew and loved him. Morris' quick smile, kind heart and upbeat personality served him well in his leadership role and his holiday side hustle as Santa Claus, often accompanied by his wife Sharon portraying "Mrs. Claus." In a Sept. 2021 interview with the Times regarding his retirement from the Farmersville Fire Department, Morris reflected on his 50-year career in public service that began in 1972 with the McKinney Fire Department. At McKinney Fire Department, Morris said he became the department's "very first EMT" and recalled that he received his emergency medical technician training at a hospital in Richardson. FARMERSVILLE TIMES - METERED SITE Abeline Fire Department's new Ladder 1 engine honors Air Force service members, Push-In ceremony in January The Abilene Fire Department (AFD) will be welcoming the new Ladder 1 engine to Station 1 in January. The new Ladder 1 was designed to pay tribute to Dyess Air Force Base (Dyess AFB). In the past, Dyess AFB has honored Abilene with nose art on two places, the ‘Spirit of Abilene' C-130J and the retired ‘Star of Abilene' B-1. These planes represent the relationship between Dyess AFB and the City of Abilene; Now, Ladder 1 will honor the service of Air Force members through subtle details. These details include red, white and blue lighting on the ladder, star and bars, a grey combat flag, ‘Kibosh' in honor of Lt. Col. William Edwin Dyess and a tail number DY outlined in white. There will also be the phrases ‘We Support Our Troops' above the flag on the front and ‘Dyess' below the flag. KTAB-TV CBS 32 ABELINE Thief steals cash donated to Tom Bean firefighters The all-volunteer staff at Tom Bean Fire Rescue was hoping for some donations over the holiday season. Someone had other ideas. The department set out a donation jar at the Valero convenience store, as they have in previous years. This money helps fund projects, and to purchase fuel for the fire trucks. When they went to pick up the week's donations, they found the jar had been stolen. Fire Chief Jason Lankford estimates about $50 was taken. "It's very disheartening to see this group of volunteers... they don't make any dime off of this," Tom Bean Mayor Daniel Harrison. "If anything, it costs them money because they're donating their time, their fuel to come up here... their biweekly meetings... I mean, they are putting a lot of their time and effort into all of this." KTEN-TV NBC/CW+/ABC 10 ADA Fire at Winter Street Studios in Houston under investigation Years and years' worth of artwork went up in flames in a matter of minutes before sunrise in Houston's Sawyer Heights area on Tuesday. Eyewitness News was told that the Winter Street Studios in the Sawyer Yards creative campus at the center of the Arts District caught fire, which caused significant damage. Everything Jack Potts has worked for for the past seven years was destroyed. "This is gone," Potts, who owns the studio where the fire started, said. "There is no lifeboat. There is no 'I'll get a check to recover.' I have to figure out how to recover." This fire couldn't have come at a worse time. Potts was switching insurance carriers while changing the direction of his business, Bohemian Photography. Staying strong right now makes him emotional. VIDEO: Fire at Kentucky strip mall draws more than 50 firefighters to scene A fire that started in a strip mall early Wednesday morning drew more than 50 firefighters and a dozen fire engines to respond to the scene, according to the Louisville Fire Department. The firefighters were dispatched at 4:04 a.m. to a facility with an attached garage and multiple stores at S. 18th and W. Jefferson streets, Louisville Fire spokesperson Maj. COURIER JOURNAL - METERED SITE Fire department in Oklahoma moves to new physical test in employment process VIDEO: The Tulsa Fire Department (TFD) has updated their physical ability test for any candidate who wants to be a part of the department. It's a test of physical and mental strength, and it must be passed before candidates can move on to the interview portion of the process. Up until January 2022, TFD did a candidate physical ability test of its own, but now the Oklahoma State Firefighter's Pension Board requires every department in the state to align with these tests. Tulsa Fire Chief of Staff Chad Miller said in a statement they are already seeing positive results. He said in part, "We saw fewer issues with the cadets of this last class being able to perform physically." KOKI-TV FOX 23 TULSA ‘It Rained Oil': Remembering the Explosive 1958 Hancock Refinery Fire in California PHOTOS: It was May 22, 2:00 p.m., I'm 9 years old, waiting on a Thursday afternoon for the school day to end. I've lived my whole— short —life in Lakewood, a new suburb incorporated in 1954. There are square miles of the same kind of neighborhood in every direction. I rode my bike to school and will ride it back. After school, I'll watch black-and-white "Popeye" cartoons with their bewildering 1930s cultural references. People say I live in suburbia, where the routines of family life are everything and nothing ever happens. The history of oil complicates those clichés. Oil from fields in a wide band from Newport Beach though Long Beach to the Baldwin Hills powered the industrialization of Los Angeles and transformed the city in the 1920s. Even in 1958, the region's oil fields are among the most productive on the West Coast.
