Large Duncanville Fire Displaces Residents During Cold Weather VIDEOS: Firefighters battled a large fire in Duncanville that could be seen from Texas Sky Ranger. The fire engulfed five townhomes at 1408 Crosspointe in Duncanville near Clark and Wheatland Road. Michelle Monterro's home was destroyed by the fire. She said her neighbors had work crews in the home doing some sort of repair work when the fire broke out. Monterro lost her home of just six months and said she didn't know where she and her family would sleep, as there were no hotels available for miles due to power outages. Other neighbors claimed to have seen people running from the home after the fire sparked, but police would not confirm anything about the claims of work crews or people leaving the scene. The Duncanville Fire Department, along with Grand Prairie, Lancaster and Midlothian fire departments, worked to contain the fire as it continued to spread to other residences. KXAS-TV NBC 5 FORT WORTH Fort Worth Firefighters Safely Remove 2 Raccoons That Crashed Through Ceiling of House PHOTOS: Maybe they needed somewhere warm to escape the blizzard, but for a pair of raccoons that crashed through the ceiling of a home this weekend, their respite from the record cold was short-lived. Engine 8 of the Fort Worth Fire Department shared images of the furry fiasco via Facebook, saying: "Your FWFD is always on its toes because we never know what the next call may be." Typically, once a wild animal like a racoon falls, chances are they will have a very hard time getting back up into the ceiling. As you can see from the photos, both animals appear panicked and anti-social despite their party crashing ways. It isn't ideal, even for highly trained firefighters to get stuck in a small room with the stressed out animals. Bites are a real concern, and then a painful rabies shot is necessary. KTVT CBS 11 FORT WORTH Lack of water in Abilene forces firefighters to watch house burn Firefighters were forced to watch a house burn Monday night as a lack of water in the City of Abilene prevented them from extinguishing the blaze. Crews responded to the call at the 1200 block of Cedar Crest Drive just before 8:15 Monday night, where they found a house fully engulfed in flames. The City of Abilene on Monday evening asked customers to limit their water usage to cooking and drinking only as the supply dwindled amid electricity outages that have stripped more than 20,000 customers of power in the Big Country. Less than two hours after warning customers that the supply was limited, there was no running water in Abilene, which hindered the firefighters' abilities to save the house. Abilene City Manager Robert Hanna addressed the issue at a news conference Tuesday morning. KCIT-TV FOX 14 AMARILLO Austin firefighters average 500 calls a day; After it snowed, they answered 3,000 calls in 24 hours Austin and Travis County first responders continued to help residents with emergencies including highway wrecks, house fires and carbon monoxide poisoning Monday night and again into Tuesday after a dangerous winter storm dumped more than half a foot of snow across parts of Central Texas. Many Central Texas residents for a second day Tuesday were without power as temperatures dipped into the single digits. As of 11 a.m. Tuesday, more than 550 Austin-area residents took refuge at some of the city's emergency shelters. More people were expected to leave their homes during the day Tuesday to shelter at the Palmer Events Center in South Austin before roads freeze over again by nightfall, a spokesperson from the city said. Some Austin-area residents who were unable to travel on Monday took drastic and dangerous measures to heat their homes with charcoal and propane. AUSTIN AMERICAN-STATESMAN - METERED SITE 3 adults and 4 kids transported after carbon monoxide poisoning in Plum Grove Firefighters said at least seven people were hospitalized Tuesday due to carbon monoxide poisoning at a home in Plum Grove. The Plum Grove Volunteer Fire Department said around 1:30 p.m., crews responded to a call of multiple occupants in a home unresponsive due to carbon monoxide poisoning. Once on scene, crews said they found three adults and four kids in the home. The victims were removed from the residence and taken to a hospital. Two of the victims were said to be in critical condition. According to the fire department, the cause of the poisoning was determined to be charcoal and propane grills burning inside the residence. "Please do not start any type of fires inside your residence as this is extremely dangerous and could result in death, or serious illness," the department wrote on its Facebook. KTRK-TV ABC 13 HOUSTON Multiple Lumberton apartment residents displaced when ceilings collapse following burst pipes Multiple residents at a Lumberton apartment complex have to find another play to stay after pipes burst and caused the ceilings to collapse in several units Tuesday afternoon. The Lumberton fire department got a 911 call from a resident at the Lumberton on the Lake apartments on South LHS Drive around noon Tuesday reporting that the ceiling had collapsed. While firefighters were headed to the scene, several more calls about collapsed ceilings at the complex began coming in, according to a spokesman for the Lumberton Fire Department. "A rush of water came down on the floor and in the master everything just collapsed," resident William Leon told 12News Tuesday. Pipes burst in eight of the buildings at the complex, according to the fire department spokesman. KBMT-TV ABC 12 BEAUMONT PREVIOUS STATE NEWS |

Large Texas Townhome Fire Displaces Residents During Cold Weather VIDEO: Firefighters battled a large fire in Duncanville that could be seen from Texas Sky Ranger. KXAS-TV NBC 5 FORT WORTH Bill will increase safety for FDNY on film sets across New York City after firefighter killed in 2018 An agreement was reached Tuesday to protect firefighters with more safety on film sets throughout New York City Eileen Davidson, the widow of a firefighter killed on a movie set in 2018, has pushed hard for the safety crackdown. Michael Davidson, 37, was killed on the set of "Motherless Brooklyn" on March 23, 2018 in Harlem. When he and Engine Company 69 were called to the fire, they had no idea the building was not as it appeared. False walls had been erected and flammable materials were brought on site. Davidson became separated from his team and ran out of air. The pending legislation will protect future film locations and will require a fire safety director to be on set all the time, so if the layout is changed, responding firefighters will know before they go charging in. Davidson and members of the FDNY were concerned that amendments proposed to the bill by the film industry would strip critical safety elements from it. WABC-TV ABC 7 NEW YORK Assistant Kentucky Fire Chief Said Near Loss of Two Colleagues Is Scariest Experience in 19-Year Career Glasgow Assistant Fire Chief Adam Maulden said in his 19-years of service, he has never been as scared as he was Monday at a massive fire when that nearly killed his colleague. At around 4:30 p.m., the Glasgow Fire Department responded to a fire at Hughes HVAC Supply on West Main Street. The building is a complete loss. While fighting the fire, a wall collapsed, nearly hitting and trapping three firefighters. One of those firefighters, Maulden, said when the wall collapsed, he was surrounded by black smoke and couldn't see his men. "My first instinct was to grab for the firefighters. I found one instantly. I couldn't find the other one. It's kind of like you instantly get sick because you know where he was at, you know what happened and you don't know where he's at at that point. "You don't know if he is in the collapse, where he has went. Instant misery of not being able to count because, you know, I felt accountable for them," said Maulden. WNKY-TV NBC/CBS 40 BOWLING GREEN Pennsylvania fire company turns bakery for annual Fat Tuesday doughnut fundraiser The Coal Township Rescue Squad's fire station was temporarily turned into a bakery as members continued a longtime tradition of making doughnuts for Fat Tuesday. "The amount of years I've been here and the last couple of years, this is the most I've seen us make," Kayla Hoffman said. The volunteer firefighters started cooking thousands of doughnuts at midnight and have been here all day. "Cinnamon sugar, granulated sugar, powdered sugar, glazed, plain and sprinkled," Hoffman said. People lined up for a dozen or more. "Oh, they're excellent, yeah, they're really good," Richard Foulds said. Perhaps the best part is all proceeds from the doughnut sale go right back to the Coal Township Rescue Squad. "Building costs, maintenance for the vehicles, if we need equipment, anything that we need, bills, anything that we need," Hoffman said. Firefighters here say this is their biggest fundraiser of the year and typically brings in more than $5,000. WNEP-TV ABC 16 SCRANTON Family of 29-year-old firefighter who died of COVID asks North Carolina community to take virus seriously A 29-year-old firefighter who worked for departments in Iredell and Rowan Counties died from COVID-19 last week. Now his family at home and in the fire service have a message they want the community to hear. They spoke very candidly about taking COVID seriously. They say their hope is that their experience will save another family from having to go through the pain they have endured for the last five weeks. "When I found out I was positive, I texted him and told him, he said it's okay mom, don't worry about it," said mother Cindy Bregoli. "He said I'm going to be okay mom, don't worry about it." For as long as anyone can remember, Andrew Bley was all about the fire service. "He grew up around the fire service," said Bley's stepfather David Bregoli. "When he was about two weeks old he was in a firetruck just hanging round." The Lake Norman High School graduate was living his dream, working first in Mount Mourne, and then for the Atwell Volunteer Department in Rowan County. WBTV CBS 3 CHARLOTTE PREVIOUS NATIONAL NEWS |
