Brief 911 outage affects 33 call centers in Tarrant County People who tried to call 911 in Tarrant County Tuesday afternoon couldn't get through. The outage affected dozens of call centers throughout the county. Fort Worth, Grapevine, Colleyville, Southlake and Keller all sounded the alarm Tuesday. For about 30 minutes, people across the county experienced problems getting through to 911. They'd call but hear no ringing or dial tone. Typically, when that happens, a call center would switch just its calls to another center. But Tuesday's outage impacted all 33 call centers throughout Tarrant County. Matt Zavadsky with MedStar says it happened at 3:29 Tuesday afternoon. "We were actually on the phone with several 911 callers, and they were cut off in the middle of those phone calls," he said. "Then we were without 911 capability for 30 minutes." KDFW-TV FOX 4 DALLAS 18-wheeler carrying race cars involved in fatal crash in Gregg County VIDEOS/PHOTOS: Authorities responded to the scene of a fatal crash on Interstate 20 and Estes Parkway involving an 18-wheeler Tuesday. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash happened on Interstate 20, and Estes Pkwy at mile marker 595. The interstate was shut down in both directions due to the crash. Since then, one westbound lane has opened, and all eastbound lanes are open. According to a social media post by the organization, the truck was apparently transporting cargo for David Gilliland Racing, en route to Arizona for a ARCA Menards Series event at Phoenix Raceway. According to a preliminary investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety, a Honda Passport and small towed trailer were traveling west on I-20 in the outside lane. The semi-truck and towed trailer were traveling west on I-20 approaching the Honda from behind. KLTV ABC 7 TYLER Mud daubers contribute to Kaufman County house fire PHOTOS: According to the Kaufman County Fire Marshal's Office, a house fire north of Terrell last week was contributed to by faulty wiring and mud daubers. After a forensic examination of the site, Kaufman County's Fire Marshal's Office says their investigation determined the area of the fire's origin was in the attic above the garage. A detailed search revealed electrical connections that were not located inside junction boxes, according to the fire marshal. The cause of the fire was a mud dauber nest which had fully encompassed a wiring connection. Deterioration was seen on interior portions of the mud dauber nest. "Needless to say, fire origin and cause determinations require patience and attention to detail," the fire marshal's office said. KLTV ABC 7 TYLER 16-year-old NISD student charged with arson after series of grass fires in west Bexar County A 16-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with a series of grass fires that erupted last week near Brennan High School in West Bexar County. NASCAR Community in Mourning After Team Hauler Crashes, Catches Fire in Texas PHOTO: NASCAR teams know the next time a driver gets inside the car, it might be their last time. Traveling at such high speeds, death is, unfortunately, a part of the sport. On Tuesday, the NASCAR community was shocked with news that one of the team haulers traveling to this weekend's races in Phoenix was involved in a fatal accident in Texas, killing the driver. While the NASCAR Cup Series teams are concluding their West Coast Swing this weekend in Phoenix, the ARCA Menards Series teams are heading out west to the desert for the second race of the season. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the hauler of David Gilliland Racing was transporting the No. 17 ARCA team of Taylor Gray through east Texas near Longview when it contacted another car from behind and crashed around 4 AM. SPORTSCASTING North Dakota city has just 1 female firefighter; With a different approach, neighboring town has 8 The only woman employed as a firefighter in the city of Fargo needed four tries to pass the entrance exams and finally get the job offer. That was 13 years ago for Dawn Stollenwerk, who's worked her way up to battalion chief and assistant fire marshal. Fargo Fire Chief Steve Dirksen said since then, only one other woman has passed the physical agility test to be a firefighter and was offered a position, but ultimately turned it down. The lack of women firefighters among Fargo's 125 full-time staff is not for lack of effort. "We are actively recruiting … but as of right now, I'm the only one," Stollenwerk said. Across the Red River in Moorhead, there are no women on the staff of 37 active firefighters. The lone female, Kayla Cross, former battalion chief and assistant fire marshal, left the department in February after being accused of refusing a sobriety test following a crash, a misdemeanor case that's still working its way through the courts. INFORUM - METERED SITE Teen on a mission to build fire trucks out of Legos for every city in Massachusetts VIDEO: A North Andover teenager is on a mission to build Lego fire trucks for every city in Massachusetts. Cristian Sciaudone, 16, started building the sets with his dad when he was just 4-years-old. He starts by designing each truck with a computer program then spends about three hours building each one. Cristian said he makes the trucks to honor the firefighters for their service. "I was starting to build rigs from departments around me. Then I started moving south to some other departments, like Boston and then it just kinda came to me," he explained. "I'm not gonna stop here, I'm gonna keep going and try to do every department in the state. I just finished building this truck for the Weston Fire Department." Cristian has also built police cruisers, snowplows and tow trucks. One day he said he wants to go into public safety or computer design. WHDH-TV ABC 7 BOSTON Washington state fire department digs served their purpose for 91 years PHOTOS: After cigar ashes ignited a fire in Wenatchee's Central Market the evening of July 6, 1909, dry winds propelled the flames through several downtown streets. Most of the buildings were made of wood and easily caught fire. Dozens of businesses and residences burned — as did Wenatchee's first fire station, next to the jail on Columbia Street. The new metal fire bell was not damaged, but the bell tower was destroyed. A new fire station was built at 22 S. Mission St. It stood until 1929, when the fire department moved into a classy new two-story building at 136 S. Chelan Ave. It was designed by famed Wenatchee architect Ludwig Solberg in the Beaux Arts style (symmetrical with elaborate ornamentation and a Greco-Roman influence) and has beige brick walls and an asphalt roof.
