| Family displaced, pets killed after fire at San Antonio home A home on the West Side was completely damaged Tuesday due to a fire. San Antonio firefighters responded to the home just before 6 a.m. in the 10300 block of Coral Village, not far from Potranco Road and South Ellison Drive. According to SAFD, firefighters arrived to find heavy flames in the garage. They were able to contain the flames in the garage, but the rest of the house sustained damage due to smoke, heat and water. The fire did not spread to other homes or structures. The residents were able to evacuate but some pets died. One resident was cleared after initial smoke inhalation but no one was injured. Firefighters said it appeared the fire was caused by an electrical issue, including possibly an overloaded outlet. The damage is estimated between $150,000 and $200,000. KSAT-TV ABC 12 SAN ANTONIO Navasota Fire Department will soon have a new home On Monday, the city of Navasota finalized the purchase of land that will serve as the new home for the Navasota Fire Department. Along Spur 515 behind the Circle T Truck Stop, is the new location for Navasota Fire Department's fire station. The land may not look like much right now, but the city says this will be an ideal spot for the fire department to serve the growing community. Jason Weeks, Navasota's city manager, says the Navasota Fire Department has been in their current fire station for 30 years. He says an upgrade has been on the city's radar for a while and a larger space was a top priority. "The current location is not a bad location. Ideally, we'd find a new location that's not too far from the location that will also serve our growth," said Weeks. KBTX-TV CBS 3 BRYAN Rotan Volunteer Fire Department responds to pipeline leak Late Monday night the Rotan Volunteer Fire Department was notified of pipeline gas leak. The pipeline is owned by Producers Median. The Rotan fire chief says he and his firefighters worked all night to ensure the community was safe. "We blocked off the intersection of County Road 311 and Highway 70, and then again out by the Rotan Gypsum Plant at the other end of County Road 311," Robert Hoffman said. The fire chief advised everyone to avoid the area. Producers Midstream gave the following statement: "We immediately activated our emergency response plans and isolated that portion of the pipeline. It is important to note that there is no danger to the surrounding community. We are so grateful to the Rotan fire department, who responded immediately and are on-site, re-routing traffic on CR 311 as a precaution." KTXS-TV ABC/CW+ 12 SWEETWATER Travis County ESD 2 does swift water training in New Braunfels VIDEO: As we head into the warmer months, firefighters are getting ready for possible drowning-related calls. Crews from Travis County ESD 2 were in New Braunfels for swift water training. "The big thing is if someone were to find them, the fire department shows up. We're able to affect a rescue, possibly get them into a lifejacket, get them off a vehicle, get them off of a tree, whatever they may be on," said Capt. Trevor Stokes, with Travis Co. ESD 2. Crews did deep water rescues with rope bags, shallow water rescues, practiced body positioning, and learned about hydrology, so they could read the water and figure out where to best get in. Officials say flooding regularly happens in Central Texas, and with population growth, some people might not be familiar with it. It's important to be weather aware. Turn around, don't drown. | VIDEO: Fire burns through 55-plus community's clubhouse in Pennsylvania Flames and thick smoke could be seen coming from the clubhouse of a 55-plus community in Montgomery County Wednesday morning, leaving residents without one of the vital places in their lives. Firefighters could be seen pouring water onto the fire at the community center at the Village of Neshaminy Falls off Stump and Horsham roads in North Wales, Pennsylvania. There are hundreds of people living in the senior community, a resident told NBC10's Katy Zachry. Some of them witnessed flames coming from the clubhouse around 5:30 a.m. and called 911, Montgomery Township Fire Chief Bill Wiegman told NBC10. The rec center -- a lifeline for some residents where they gather do aerobics, play cards and gather for other activities -- had yet to open for the day when the fire began. WCAU-TV NBC 10 PHILADELPHIA Massachusetts fire department is now using AI technology during response calls VIDEO: Foxboro firefighters are now trained on a new tool to help patients while in the back of an ambulance. The ultrasound device is now equipped with artificial intelligence to better pinpoint someone's organs. "Ultrasound images inherently aren't clear pictures of what's going on inside, so having that quick step to say okay the algorithm in the computer is seeing what I'm looking at – now I know I'm in the right place," said Brian Foley, a Foxboro firefighter paramedic. The AI will actually label the organs on the screen of the iPad, so a paramedic can determine how severe an injury is more quickly, which is crucial when every minute could mean a matter of life or death. Foley says the AI allows them to pass along information to the hospital quicker as well to get the OR ready for a trauma patient. WFXT-TV FOX 25 BOSTON Ohio will help fire departments destroy PFAS-laden firefighting foam Ohio has launched the first program in the country to collect and destroy PFAS-laden firefighting foam. The takeback program is a statewide effort for fire departments to dispose their stores of Aqueous film forming foam, otherwise known as AFFF – one of the most pervasive sources of "forever chemicals." Until now, Ohio fire departments have had no way of getting rid of their stores of foam, which can risk residents' health if the foam contaminates soil and drinking water. While there are no official figures, state officials estimate there are tens of thousands of gallons of the foam in Ohio, which has been piling up while waiting on a solution. AFFF is a firefighting tool that's been used since the 1960s. It also happens to contain PFAS, which are man-made chemicals coming under increased regulatory scrutiny for its links to certain cancers, increased infertility, and other health risks. At Hives for Heroes, veterans in Rapid City get paired up with an experienced mentor who teaches them about the hobby. This non-profit organization brings people together through beekeeping, providing connection, purpose, and healthy relationships. "It's kind of a unity thing to say we're working on something bigger; we're just one part of this bigger organism, and it's the same with those who have been in the military, the police department, the fire department, ambulance crews; you're just a small part of it, and coming here, it's the same thing, and we're all working for the same outcome," said Brian Maschino, mentor at Hives for Heroes.
