According to an announcement from the Dalhart Volunteer Fire Department, Firefighter Brendan Torres and Fire Chief Curtis Brown were involved in a crash with a semi late last night while returning from a call earlier that night. Reports state that on Oct. 4, at 8:40 p.m., DPS Troopers responded to a call about a head on collision involving a Dalhart Volunteer Fire Department vehicle and a truck tractor towing a semi-trailer on US 54. Troopers believe that the truck tractor towing the semi-trailer was traveling northeast when the driver of the truck tractor attempted to pass an unknown vehicle and struck the Chevrolet that was traveling southwest head-on. WFAA-TV ABC 8 DALLAS Firefighters work to keep grass fire away from house near Jasper Local firefighters were busy late Tuesday afternoon working to keep a grass fire from reaching a house. Meanwhile, the owner says a neighbor is to blame for starting a fire and then leaving it unattended – not once, but twice. The Burkeville Fire Department responded shortly before 5:00 to the Joe Evans residence on Highway 63 between Jasper and Burkeville, and soon called for assistance from the East End Fire Department. The two departments worked to stop the flames and prevented damage to any structures. Mr. Evans contacted KJAS News and he told us that it was the second time on Tuesday that fire threatened his house. Evans said that neighbors started a fire near his fence-line on Tuesday morning and left it unattended, and it then spread out of control until it was put out. KJAS-FM 107.3 JASPER Bullard Fire Department does fire safety demonstrations for students When it comes to learning about certain things in the classroom-- sometimes hands-on learning is more effective. That's why this morning-- the Bullard Fire Department demonstrated fire safety for the first and second graders at Bullard ISD. The firefighters showed students the functions and capabilities of the fire engine-- and even let them get up close to the fire truck. They also used a blow up house to simulate a fire with smoke. That was used to teach the kids about smoke alarms-- the stop, drop and roll technique-- and how to exit a house in the case of a fire. "Just through educating the public, especially kids, we've reduced the number of emergencies and fires substantially since the fire service began that as a whole," says Bullard fire chief, Mason King. Fire chief King says they want kids to stay safe, and know what to expect in an emergency situation, which helps them rescue them more efficiently. KLTV ABC 7 TYLER Austin Fire Department responds to fire caused by discarded kegs exploding at camp in woods PHOTO: A trash fire broke out at a camp in the woods in North Austin Wednesday morning after several discarded kegs exploded. No injuries were reported. CapMetro said the tracks will reopen soon. KEYE-TV CBS 42 AUSTIN PREVIOUS STATE NEWS |

VIDEO: Massive fire breaks out at former bank building in California A massive fire erupted at a former bank building in Boyle Heights and authorities say a person of interest is being interviewed. The blaze was reported at around 1:30 p.m. at a vacant, single-story structure located at 1308 S. Soto St, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. AIR7 HD captured intense flames quickly burning through the roof of the building, sending a towering column of thick black smoke into the air. LAFD investigators said a fire in the attic quickly spread throughout the vacant building, which was mostly boarded up. Los Angeles firefighters worked for almost two hours to fully put out the blaze. One firefighter was reportedly being evaluated at the scene for minor injuries. Further details surrounding the person of interest weren't immediately released. No evacuation orders were issued, according to authorities. KABC-TV ABC 7 LOS ANGELES Editorial: Searching for the living, finding the dead; Hurricane Ian takes toll on rescuers, too They go from door to door, hoping to find survivors and accounting for the dead, a grueling mission that continues even as bright and sunny skies make monstrous Hurricane Ian seem like something out of our deepest nightmares. "We end up in this paradise — but next to us is an apocalypse," one Miami-Dade firefighter assigned to a rescue team told the Miami Herald's David Goodhue. As Southwest Florida assesses the damage and figures out what the future may hold in a post-Ian world, rescue teams from around Florida and beyond go about their tasks, on foot and sometimes with dogs, knocking on the doors of wrecked homes and businesses, looking under piles of debris and checking inside the shells of buildings. They work methodically, block by block, but not without emotion, "Forget about our jobs," the firefighter said. "We're human." MIAMI HERALD - METERED SITE North Carolina firefighters recovering from flash fire burns Two High Point firefighters are quickly recovering after coming face-to-face with a fire that caused first and second-degree burns to several parts of their bodies. "I definitely feel like it was one of those situations that was kind of a freak accident and kind of the wrong place at the wrong time," Josh Bryant said. Bryant has been a firefighter for the past ten years and has worked for the High Point department for six of them. He said in his years on the job, he has never been in a situation that caused extensive burns to his body. Last month, Bryant and several other crew members were working to clean out dust from a silo at the High Point Furniture Industries Warehouse. WGHP-TV FOX 8 HIGH POINT Wisconsin: ‘Decon' buckets prevent cancer in firefighters Chippewa Valley Technical College presented the Chippewa Falls Fire Station with a decontamination bucket to help prevent cancer in their first responders. Firefighters have an increased risk of cancer because of the various carcinogens they are exposed to on the job. Money was raised by CVTC to provide these buckets to local fire departments. The decontamination buckets contain items such as a fire hose adapter, soap, and a scrub brush so firefighters can start to decontaminate their gear on scene. CVTC Fire Training Manager, Mark Schwartz, says when he heard every fire station in Florida was provided with similar "decon" buckets he wanted to contribute in the same way locally.
