Dear Owlet Family, We are writing to share the incredible news that the Owlet community raised more than $150,000 for Dr. Carmel Harrington’s ground-breaking SIDS work which will empower her to continue onto the next phases of her research. Her goal is to develop preventative screenings in order to identify babies at risk for SIDS and eventually introduce early interventions. More than thirty years after losing her own child to SIDS, she will be able to start her research again in the new year thanks to your generous support. We wanted to share with you a note from Dr. Harrington: “Feeling humble” is a much overworked phrase these days, but I am truly overwhelmed and, yes, humbled, by the generosity of the Owlet community. It has been an incredible response. The love that has underpinned each one of these donations brings both joy and sadness to my heart. Joy, because I know it is because of your generosity and love that one day we will beat SIDS, and sadness, because I too know the grief that many of you who have donated experience daily. With the knowledge that SIDS infants have a lower level of an arousal enzyme compared to other infants we aim to use your generous donations to develop a test to detect, at birth, if an infant has a vulnerability to SIDS. If ever the time was ripe to put an end to SIDS it is now, and your donation is an integral part of the solution. Together, we can. This is a major milestone for babies everywhere and we look forward to providing you with updates about Dr. Harrington’s impactful work. With thanks for your support, Kurt Workman CEO & Co-Founder, Owlet |
