Circle of Blue, made for this moment

Dear John —

We did it!

Thank you for a successful NewsMatch and year-end campaign.

Your contribution puts the best journalists into the field, where they are bringing to life the world’s most important water stories — and informing the most important decisions at a critical moment in human history.

Because of you, foundations and others are stepping up as force-multipliers for positive and urgently needed change — in water and beyond.

Because of you, Circle of Blue has received catalytic grants from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation and Wege Foundation that are helping us expand and deepen our work.

Because of you, we are taking the next step in our evolution as a new kind of media organization — one that combines world-class investigative journalism, top-tier convening power, and comprehensive data analysis to inform people and policy.

Because of you, we are prepared for this expanded mission — to be the lighthouse in a storm, a compass and map for all that water touches.

Thanks to your support, here is a taste of what you can expect from Circle of Blue in the months ahead:

A new digital experience
We are hammering and sawing behind the scenes to build a new state-of-the-art website and digital platform that will be easy to navigate and look great on your laptop or phone. Some changes will be invisible, others will be extensive. We’ll roll out new features throughout the year.

More news
In addition to producing more of Circle of Blue’s world-renowned reporting and analysis, we are partnering with other news organizations to bring you the latest from across the globe.

More ideas
Solutions for many of the world’s “wicked problems” exist already — and many of those solutions revolve around water. We will be amplifying the voices of thought leaders, experts, youth and influencers on the front lines of policy, design, finance, and innovation.

More resources
We will also be sharing more connections and sources for trusted information, including graphics and education materials.

More partnerships
Circle of Blue’s work has a wider and deeper impact because we put extra effort into our partnerships and collaborations. We are collaborating with Dalberg Catalyst, Northwestern University, Arizona State University and the World Economic Forum — to name just a few — to reach a new level of creativity and collective impact.

Meeting the moment
Circle of Blue’s mission is to respond to the world’s intensifying water emergencies with the best tools, information, and talents to inform the world’s most important decisions around water. While food, energy, health, and the environment are all facing critical threats, water is the universal solvent.

That's why we are boldly creating what we are describing as a new operating system for water — you will be hearing more about this ambitious, collaborative initiative,  “Designing Water’s Future,” in the weeks and months ahead.

As always, we love to hear from you. What do you want to see? What is missing? How can Circle of Blue expand our reach and impact — and give water the loud and clear voice that it deserves?
J. Carl Ganter
Managing Director
