Good morning and welcome to the Saints Insider newsletter for Wednesday, March 15. Surprise, surprise. Michael Thomas is back. Two months ago, all signs pointed to an amicable divorce between the star receiver and the Saints. But the signing of quarterback Derek Carr changed the dynamic, and Thomas and the Saints surprisingly agreed to terms Tuesday on a one-year, inventive-laded contract. Against all odds, the former All-Pro will be back in New Orleans for at least one more season, Luke Johnson reports. --Thomas' return is a major boost for the Saints offense, assuming he's healthy and back to being "Can't Guard Mike," columnist Rod Walker opines. --If you're a Thomas believer, then you might want to back your support of him with a wager at the local casino. Right now, his odds to win the NFL's 2023 Comeback Player of the Year Award are juicy, reports Jim Derry. --In Part 3 of our continuing offseason series, our Saints coverage staff gathers at the roundtable to answer the question: How far can the Saints go with Derek Carr at quarterback? That's it for today, but we'll have more coverage throughout the week as NFL free agency kicks off Wednesday. Be sure to check NOLA.com for daily updates and analysis from our crack Saints coverage team. Until next time, take care and thanks for reading, Jeff Duncan |
