| | Dear Science Teachers, Today is Thanksgiving–a joyous and festive kick-off to the holiday season. Many of us have a lot to be thankful for, including family and friends, and I'm especially thankful that I'm able to support a profession making important strides in science education. I get to work with friends who have a passion for what we do–the people here at NSTA, from our Service Central team, to our meeting planners, to our marketing and social media experts, and those in our Content and Program Integration Divisions who develop and deliver content. My colleagues throughout this organization are committed to ensuring that we move closer to achieving NSTA's mission: To promote excellence and innovation in science teaching and learning for all. The work we do, however, would be impossible without our members and others in our science teaching community. So I'm most thankful for individuals like you—members who attend our conferences, read our journals and other publications, and all of you who put what you've learned into practice in your classrooms. I'm grateful for those who contribute to our NSTA listserves and Learning Center communities; those who tweet and retweet, share and repost information from our social media platforms. I'm appreciative of our volunteer leaders–from those serving on our board and council, to those we tap to help with ad hoc workgroups and task forces. We have authors, conference planning teams, standing committees, and more...the list of contributions our members offer is too long to list here. Without you, we would not be able to do the important work we're able to do. We want to thank you for being a part of this wonder and important community of educators. From all of us at NSTA, please have an enjoyable, safe, and Happy Thanksgiving! Thank you, and if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, please email me at tbirts@nsta.org. Sincerely, Teshia Birts, CAE NSTA Director of Membership and Chapter Relations P.S. This is a good time to remind you about something we do for you! Applications for the 2017 NSTA Teacher Awards are now being accepted, and as always it's entirely free to enter.
