Dear Voornaam,
Today is the day that Americans remember the sacrifices that veterans and our families have made in service to our nation. Veterans have paid, and continue to pay, the price for the freedoms enjoyed by all of us. If or when they return home, they come home with wounds -- almost no one returns unscathed. We owe veterans and their family members our deepest gratitude and respect.
Veterans in Oregon have continued to serve our state and communities. We run for office and help Democrats get elected locally, statewide, and at the national level.
I am so proud of the veterans, family members, and allies who are members of the Democratic Party of Oregon Veterans Caucus. Our members have joined with volunteers throughout the state to work hard on issues that matter to Oregonians.
I am grateful that in President Biden, we have a President who understands the sacrifices of veterans who have served past and present. President Biden’s PACT Act ensures veterans can be screened for toxic exposures such as burn pits and Agent Orange/herbicides.
Today is the day to remember those who have served and their family members who sacrificed so much. If you are a veteran, thank you for your service and sacrifices. If you are a family member of a veteran or service member, thank you for the sacrifices you made and continue to endure when your loved ones are away serving - to keep us safe and defend our freedoms.
With gratitude and respect,
Cindy Smith
