No need to panic, health specialists say, after University Medical Center in New Orleans reported the first known instances in Louisiana of the drug-resistant yeast - an emerging global threat, in the view of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevenention. Despite the “superbug” status given to C. auris, because it is so hard to kill, the specialists say the fungus doesn’t typically affect most people even if it is an issue for hospitals already taxed by COVID-19 patients and people who are hospitalized with complicated health problems.
