The $11.4M Nvidia Put That Made Millions More — And What It Says About the Market

Most traders were celebrating Nvidia’s (NVDA) rally earlier this week, but one options trader was making a much bigger bet in the opposite direction.

A massive put trade on Nvidia sent ripples through the options market Wednesday, and if you weren’t paying attention, you missed a masterclass in how smart money operates.

A Deep-in-the-Money Bet Pays Off

On Thursday, someone put down a staggering $11.4 million on deep in-the-money puts for Nvidia.

The trade? March monthly expiration, $134 strike puts with shares trading around $115 — a clear sign they weren’t just making a speculative bet. This was a stock replacement strategy, where a trader mimics shorting a stock but uses deep-in-the-money puts instead of selling shares outright.

Here’s the order

And it worked. Nvidia dropped under $112 today, crushing those who had been chasing the rally.

That put buyer wasn’t trying to guess the market’s direction with cheap, out-of-the-money options. They went deep, took on less risk, and walked away with a massive gain.

This kind of trade is what separates professionals from retail traders who buy lotto-ticket puts hoping for a home run. When you see deep-in-the-money put buying, it’s not someone gambling — it’s someone managing risk and looking for a high-probability move.
