The 11 Best Watches of the Past Month

This September was proof positive that the watch industry is only growing more dynamic and exciting at all price points. Case in point? Microbrand favorite Raven Watches released a killer new version of its Trekker dive watch for just $650, while Hublot teamed up with Save Our Rhinos Africa and India (SORAI) on a special-edition Spirit of Big Bang for $110,000. (Part of the proceeds go to rhino conservation efforts.) And these are only the extremes of the price spectrum. In between, we’ve got brand-new Marathon dive watches, a fresh case size for the classic Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso, and a “rainbow” chronograph from Louis Erard that won’t break the bank. Enjoy the wide swath of horological heat in this month’s best watches!

Yesterday, we asked you about your preferred spirit in an Espresso Martini. You said:

  • Tequila (11%)
  • Whiskey (28%)
  • Vodka (61%)

Angel’s Envy Triples Down on Oak With Its Latest Bourbon

What we’re drinking: Angel’s Envy Triple Oak

Where it’s from: Founded in 2010, Angel’s Envy — the first full-production whiskey distillery in downtown Louisville, Kentucky — is known for its line of bourbons and ryes that undergo a secondary finish.

Why we’re drinking this: Angel’s Envy has made its reputation on “finished” whiskeys, but they’ve normally undergone a secondary maturation in wine or spirits barrels. This time, they focused on the wood.

IN THE NEWS

Automatic speeding alarms aren’t coming to California’s cars — yet.

Italy and Switzerland are updating their border because of climate change.

Farewell to Kris Kristofferson, a modern Renaissance man.
