We closed off voting quite early in June. That meant records from Khruangbin, Phoebe Bridgers, Bob Dylan, Gordi and more weren't even considered.
It's a whole-team vote, which essentially means that no one is entirely happy with the final list, but it does represent the breadth of the music we adore and support here at Double J.
Why do a midyear list at all?
It's an opportunity to take a snapshot of the year in music so far. To think about what artists are doing and why it's working. To give music fans an opportunity to catch up on anything extraordinary you've missed so far.
When it comes time to decide our 50 favourite albums of the year, some from this midyear list will vanish. That's not to say they're not excellent, some records get better with age and bump others out of contention.
Please enjoy our list of the best albums of 2020 so far. They're all worth your attention, and we're always
keen to hear your thoughts.
