The 50 Most Underappreciated Cars of All Time

The collector car world is currently in a phase of deep introspection. As the old guard’s definition of “classic” is challenged, a fresh wave of drivers is emerging, eager to own an entirely different set of vehicles culled from their own cultural past. The previous stalwarts of the high-dollar auction scene (muscle cars, ’30s to ’50s hot rods and pre-war cars, mostly) are beginning to fade from the collective zeitgeist, and a rising tide of previously underappreciated autos are poised to take their place.

What qualifies a classic car as “underappreciated”? These are models that for the most part have been shunned by the Boomer-fueled industry surrounding collector vehicles, usually because they fell outside the narrow definition of what was desirable due to their performance, vintage, styling or even country of origin.

Now that the doors have been thrown wide open for an entirely new set of cars and trucks to finally have their moment in the sun, we reached out to nearly a dozen automotive writers, media personalities and experts to get their opinions on which classic vehicles are criminally overlooked. Here, in no particular order, are the 50 most underappreciated collector automobiles of all time.

Take It From a Woman: Everyone Looks Good in a Denim Jacket

Throw on a jean jacket and it’ll immediately upgrade any sweatshirt, turtleneck or basic tee you own. It’s a jacket you can wear all year round, too — lightweight enough for those transitional fall and spring days, and perfect for unexpectedly chilly summer nights out. Plus, when the colder winter days hit, you can pick up a sherpa-lined version, getting all the good looks of the denim jacket with the coziness of a literal blanket.

You can pick up a sturdy denim jacket at just about any vintage or thrift store in your neighborhood. But if you’d prefer an unworn layer in mint condition or a specific style of denim jacket, we’ve rounded up a few very good choices.

It’s Never Too Late (Or Early) to Try Tai Chi. Here’s How.

Last time Statista checked, there were less than four million Americans over the age of six regularly practicing Tai Chi.

But the overwhelming majority of these trainees, unsurprisingly, are over the age of 60. Even in a golden age of inclusive, accessible and at-times experimental fitness — e.g. ClassPass, YouTube channels, Nike workout classes on Netflix — Tai Chi remains a “retiree exercise,” something we assume we’ll graduate into sooner or later, like power walking, water aerobics or line dancing.

Here’s a handy beginner’s guide to learning Tai Chi, explaining what it can do for your body and brain, why right now is the perfect time to give it a go and how to get started.
