The abrupt downhill turn came as the U.S. Federal Reserve released its statement on interest rates after a two day policy meeting. The Dow closed down 0.38%, while the S&P closed 0.15% lower. The Nasdaq narrowly escaped losses midweek, reporting gains of just 0.02%
U.S. futures markets rose drastically on Wednesday, thus trimming losses from earlier in the week.
