Here's what's going on in the market this week:

 

U.S. stocks experienced big gains in a holiday-shortened week, making up for losses in the previous week.The major indices rose for a third day in a row on Thursday with the Dow up 0.55%, the S&P up 0.62%, and The Nasdaq closing 0.85% higher.

 

U.S. futures are pointing to a muted start today as markets reopen after the Christmas holidays.

Dow futures are likely to open lower, while S&P and Nasdaq futures both indicated that they could open slightly in the green.
