Good morning and thanks for joining us. Here's a look at some of our top headlines.
Portrait of the archbishop: It's no overstatement to say that New Orleans Archbishop Gregory Aymond is leading the local diocese of the Catholic Church at a time of existential crisis. Stephanie Riegel has the story of how Aymond is trying to help the church atone for allowing decades of sexual abuse while also steering it through a costly bankruptcy process.
The Quarter in tatters: A group of neighbors have conducted an informal survey of the state of infrastructure in the French Quarter, and the findings weren't pretty. Streets without signs, ankle-breaking holes in the sidewalks, graffiti, busted streetlights and more. Joseph Cranney has the story.
Cleaning house? The city's Department of Safety and Permits, long known for its for poor customer service, corruption and bureaucratic ineptitude, is undergoing a bit of a housecleaning, with director Tammie Jackson firing or forcing out employees who she says have compromised public safety and departmental integrity. But as Ben Myers reports, some of those shown the door say the allegations against them are unfair.
We've got plenty more news, entertainment and sports from The Times-Picayune here. Thanks for reading. Chad |
