The stuff you need to know

Good Morning Voornaam,

Give your stock research a boost with Magic Markets Premium! This week, we researched Generac, the market leader in residential generators in North America. Can you tell that load shedding was the inspiration for this decision? There's a lot to learn here, particularly when it comes to blindly trusting recommendation upgrades by global brokers. Subscribe to Magic Markets Premium to find out what I'm talking about>>>

And before we move on from Magic Markets, we have a new episode for you to enjoy in which we give an honest account of some of the positions in our portfolios. I spoke about Hasbro, A ccenture and Ferrari. Mohammed Nalla (my partner in Magic Markets) discussed Visa, Disney and Simon Property Group, with a nod to Fedex as the trade that got away. You can enjoy it here>>>

Get to grips with the Budget Speech

I know. I know. You think you've heard it all and read it all when it comes to the Budget Speech this week.

Here's the thing: there's a difference between a summary article with the facts from the speech and deep insights delivered by a panel of experts. TreasuryONE has brought you the latter, so I would recommend that you make time for it.

I watched their panel discussion featuring Dr Azar Jammine, George Glynos and Songezo Zibi. In this article, I bring you my key takeouts from the event, along with a link to watch the entire discussion. If you can make time for that, I guarantee you'll learn a huge amount about our economy. Enjoy it here>>>

And in case you're wondering what the latest is on the rand, it was back at R18.30 as the Fed minutes reflected an ongoing hawkish tone.

Of cyclicals and inflation beaters

There was such a great spread of updates on the JSE yesterday, adding to what was already a very busy week on the local market. We saw Anglo American reminding us of what the year after a record performance can look like in mining, as well as Blue Label Telecoms reminding us how complicated financial reporting can get. Discovery also tried hard to convince us to focus on normalised earnings, while Distell proved that top line growth doesn't always mean profit growth.

We also saw updates from gold duo Gold Fields and Harmony Gold, as well as earnings from Momentum-Metropolitan and Mpact. Quantum Foods released a frightening update, To ngaat Hulett won a settlement amount from Deloitte and Truworths has a rather interesting cash flow statement.

See what I mean? There's a lot in here! Get all the details and my analysis in Ghost Bites>>>

Aside from the usual weekly summaries of M&A activity and Corporate Finance activity, DealMakers brings you the results from the annual gala awards. I attended a couple of these events during my advisory career and they are quite something to be part of! The winners are all here>>>
