imageThe Best Debut Novels of Spring and Summer 2021
By Barbara Hoffert
LJ’s thrice-yearly list of debut novels typically draws on news, reviews, and reading to report on the top titles of the coming seasons. That’s true of this list as well, but slowed-down book distribution and reviewing owing to the pandemic, and the list’s expansion to embrace midsummer titles (the next installment won’t appear until August) sometimes made assessment harder. What ended up mattering as much was premise and promise: a fresh, intriguing, or relevant plot, combined with an intuitive sense that the title was already making a strong impression, helped land it on the list. Herewith 49 titles to watch for and savor.

image Read-Alikes for Win by Harlan Coben | LibraryReads
By Kelly Currie, Donna Matturri, and Beth Mills

Win
, by Harlan Coben (Grand Central: Hachette), is the top holds title of the week (3/15/21). LibraryReads and Library Journal offer read-alikes for patrons waiting for this buzziest book. A favorite character from the Myron Bolitar series takes the lead here, in a story that joins two FBI cold cases, a lot of money, and a man on a mission.

"These stories offer up a history lesson and guided tour of a severely troubled town. The writer-as-tour-guide is very clearly enjoying the trip, and it’s impossible not to revel in the dark glee."
