Everything happening in Toronto real estate this week
Dear reader, We’re in a period of new expectations for would-be homebuyers. Just as much of the last generation had to shift their sights from detached houses to semis and row houses, the new crop of homeowners will likely be chasing condo units and rentals in multiplexes and mid-rises. That means amenities such as lawns and patios will be in short supply. But that’s okay, because Toronto is one of the greenest cities around. I’ve only ever lived in apartments, so I consider the city’s parks my backyards (we all pay to keep them beautiful, after all). And I recently visited what may be the most outstanding backyard in Toronto: Taylor Creek Park. It begins just outside of Victoria Park station and stretches across East York into the Don Valley’s trail network. A sunken treasure of forest and waterways, Taylor Creek is the type of setting that could have inspired Toronto’s founding myth—or Gordon Lightfoot’s entire catalogue. The park is a big highlight of Curb Appeal’s top post this week: a $2.9-million white-brick that backs onto all that nature. The house does come with a private backyard as well, so whoever ends up buying here will be living a rare dream.
