| | | Internationally recognized for its monumental outdoor and indoor installations, the Festival IMAGES VEVEY presents "THE BOOK OF IMAGES".
This DICTIONARY OF VISUAL EXPERIENCES tells the story of 310 scenographies produced by Images Vevey with 299 CONTEMPORARY ARTISTS AND PHOTOGRAPHERS such as John Baldessari, René Burri, Christian Marclay, Hans-Peter Feldmann, Lee Friedlander, Graciela Iturbide, JR, David Lynch, Daido Moriyama, Martin Parr, Alex Prager, Andres Serrano, Cindy Sherman, Laurie Simmons, Roman Signer, Erwin Wurm, etc.
The artists are presented in alphabetical order, with an indication of the year of their participation at the biennial. Throughout the pages, the reader finds monumental and unexpected installations on façades, underwater, on roofs, in gardens, basements, churches, prisons or luxury hotels.
"This encyclopedic overview comes as a true storm, full of ideas on how to think differently about photography and context: how they can blend in which each other, enhance each other or clash with each other, creating an adventure that goes far further than basic, passive viewing. (...) This book is a celebration of photography in its greatest form." (Erik Kessels, "The Art of Showing". Foreword to The Book of Images)
| | | As its name suggests, THE BOOK OF IMAGES is a book packed with a thousand images as well as an important documentation evoking the productions of Images Vevey between 2008 and 2018. It is published in 2 languages (FR and EN) and is co-edited by Images Vevey and Koenig Books, London.
Most of these 400 pages are dedicated to the "dictionary of Visual Experiences", which consists of short texts and a selection of photographs telling the stories behind each series and each scenography (p. 31 to 331). Since the majority of the proposals are designed and produced by Images Vevey, tailor-made for the biennale, a graphic display of the entire book clearly distinguishes the original works of the artists from what can be seen as an "in situ" installation (p. 333-335).
The second part of the book (pp. 337 to 364) presents in the form of infographics, the size of installations and the films made by Images Vevey. This section also documents the different members of the juries, the winners of the Grand Prix Images Vevey and the various exhibitions that took place at the Espace Images Vevey. The last part (p. 355-399) includes portraits taken in the various photomatons designed by Images Vevey as well as an index of 1215 KEYWORDS AND CONCEPTS, both intriguing and inspiring.
