Marley's eyelids fluttered up and down as I held his mouth shut. His thick body eased to the hardwood floor in the living room of our old farmhouse. My husband and I watched him closely, guessing this to be another ruse. Marley's eyes eventually remained closed, though, and he gave a little snore. Our dog appeared to be snoozing, acting as if we'd given him a sleeping pill rather than his daily medicine. However, based on past experience, we weren't convinced.
