Singing their hearts out

A community choir thought they were being scammed when someone claiming to work on Coldplay's Melbourne shows popped up in their inbox.

But it was real and Melbourne choir Pitchface performed in front of more than 50,000 people for all four sold-out shows.

Choirmaster and ABC newsreader Tamara Oudyn joined Trevor Chappell on Afternoons to describe the experience.

Countdown 50 Years On

At 6:30pm on Friday, November 8, 1974, Countdown burst into lounge rooms all over the nation and set the music scene on fire. Fifty years on, the ABC is inviting you back to the party to celebrate the little Aussie show that became a global phenomenon.

Premiering at 7.30pm on Saturday, November 16, on ABC TV and ABC iview, Countdown 50 Years On will bring the glory days of the 70s and 80s rocketing into the here and now.

Hosted by Myf Warhust with Tony Armstrong, the special birthday event is set to combine juicy behind the scenes stories and interviews from Countdown’s original 13-year run, with never-before-seen archival footage and electrifying live performances from some of our biggest stars.
