I’m tired. Not just tired as in needing more sleep. Well, that too (I have a three-year-old.) But I’m speaking of a different kind of tired, the sort of world weariness that comes from slogging through a pandemic while trying to navigate a busy work and family life.
I’m guessing you are tired too. Most people are these days. It’s a hard, heavy time. We naturally think of our need for rest (and we need more of it for sure). But sometimes we overlook the need for something just as crucial: play. The Paradox of Playfulness was a good reminder not to forsake this holy part of life. The author reminds us that playfulness isn’t a
denial that life is hard. Rather, “We engage in whimsy not because life is easy but because life is difficult.”
