Good morning Voornaam

We are now inching towards Hogmanay and the start of 2025. We haven't come up with any New Year's resolutions here yet at The Scotsman, but we do plan to continue offering the best package of Scottish news, opinion, sport and features each day.

Firstly for today, we bring you an exclusive from Transport Correspondent Alastair Dalton, as he is told the Scottish rail network is "wholly unequipped" for the digital world amid fears over a 'Nightsleeper'-style cyber attack.

Our Political Editor Alistair Grant has also analysed the year ahead in Scottish politics, and assessed what First Minister John Swinney must do to keep the SNP's recovery in the polls firmly on track.

You can read his full analysis here.

Now on the trivia front. Yesterday we asked: Which island off the coast of Scotland celebrates Christmas and New Year nearly two weeks later than the rest of the country?

The answer is: Foula in Shetland, which is inhabited by only about 30 people who still adhere to the Julian calendar.

Whatever your plans for the rest of today, we hope you enjoy them.

From,
