The Dellinger dilemma

Could the injury to starting left guard Garrett Dellinger really be the straw that broke the LSU Tigers this season?

You can make a case for it. Since Dellinger went out against Texas A&M, the Tigers are 0-3 and the past 10 quarters they’ve been outscored by a combined 100-35.

Will Dellinger be back from his “tightrope” ankle surgery as LSU gets back into Tiger Stadium on Saturday to host dangerous Vanderbilt (yes, dangerous) at 6:45 p.m. on the SEC Network? Read what LSU coach Brian Kelly had to say about that.

Kelly was also asked to comment on his fiery encounter with wide receiver Chris Hilton that was caught on camera during Saturday’s 27-16 loss at Florida. And I’ve got a column touching on the topics from Kelly’s somber Monday news conference to kick off Vandy week.

Speaking of Vandy, the Tigers will be wearing yellow jerseys Saturday. Personally, I’m not thrilled by yet another uniform combination this season. This will make five. I am thrilled that Oklahoma’s first visit to Tiger Stadium on Nov. 30 will also be a night game. We’ve got the TV and time particulars right here.

Big news on the LSU baseball front Monday, as former Tiger All-American pitcher Paul Skenes was named National League Rookie of the Year after his stellar season with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Congratulations to Olivia Dunne’s boyfriend.

The LSU women were in the PMAC on a rainy Monday night to host Troy, part of a six-day stretch with three games. And the LSU men will be in Pete’s Palace Tuesday night to take on Charleston Southern at 7 p.m., looking to run their record to 4-0 after that big 76-65 win at Kansas State last week.

Finally, our Wilson Alexander is asking for your questions for his mailbag. I imagine after a three-game losing streak his mailbag will runneth over.

That’s all for now, everyone. Thanks for your support as we continue to bring you the most comprehensive LSU sports coverage anywhere.

Until next time,

Scott Rabalais
