GLOBAL: The island of Jamaica is preparing to host the first Global Tourism Resilience Conference from Feb. 15-17. The event will focus on the importance of building resilience in the tourism sector for handling future disruptions. The event is expected to feature approximately 40 international speakers from Africa, Asia, Europe, the U.S., and the Caribbean. The conference is being driven by the Global Tourism Resilience and Crisis Management Centre, which is headquartered at the University of the West Indies, Kingston. Topics of focus will include enhancing competitiveness and sustainability, cross-sectorial collaborations, international funding and technical assistance, and the establishment of resilience barometers.
NATIONAL: Legacy Club at Circa Resort & Casino will bring New Orleans to downtown Las Vegas with its inaugural Krewe de Legacy Mardi Gras Jazz Party on Feb. 17 from 8-11 p.m. Guests can expect all the best parts of Mardi Gras culture like the music, festive décor, and carnival beads. On-site will also be a live jazz band; a menu influenced by Creole, Cajun, and soul food; a grand king cake display; and an open bar with southern-style cocktails. Tickets start at $150.
NEW YORK: On Air Fest has announced CNN anchor Audie Cornish as this year's recipient of the Audio Vanguard Award. The 2023 edition of the Audio Vanguard Award will recognize Cornish through a career-spanning interview conducted by Kara Swisher, host of On with Kara Swisher and Pivot podcasts, and the editor-at-large at New York Magazine. The event will take place Feb. 25 as part of the culmination to On Air Fest's three days of programming at Brooklyn's Wythe Hotel.
PALM SPRINGS, CALIF.: Visit Greater Palm Springs has announced industry veteran Don Prince as the director of Indian Wells Tourism. Prince will work closely with the City of Indian Wells and local tourism partners to drive awareness and increase visitation to the city. Prince brings more than 30 years of travel and tourism experience to this role, including positions as the deputy director of the Arizona Office of Tourism and director of tourism for the City of Prescott, Ariz.
SAN FRANCISCO: SAVOR, the culinary division of ASM Global, has announced that chef Roxanne Galang has been appointed as new director of culinary for the Moscone Center in San Francisco. Galang, who also held the position of chef de cuisine for SAVOR’s Moscone Center in 2017, returns to the convention venue with more than a decade of culinary expertise in the San Francisco area, including her most recent role as executive chef of premium catering for Bon Appetit at The Chase Center.
