U.S. Justice Department Split Over Decision To Charge Binance In Criminal Investigation

Reuters has reported that the U.S. Justice Department is divided over whether to file charges against Binance, the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange, in a criminal investigation launched nearly two years ago.

Some officials believe there is sufficient evidence to bring charges against Binance and its executives, while others want to review more evidence. The investigation comes at a sensitive time for the industry following the collapse of FTX. Binance has hired a former chief of the Justice Department's Money Laundering and Asset Recovery Section (MLARS) to assist with the investigation, and has issued a statement saying that the Reuters report was "wrong again."

Bitcoin’s Lightning Network Is Enabling Instant Fiat Transfers Between Europe and Africa

Bitcoin app CoinCorner has enabled a feature that allows foreign users to send low-cost instant remittances to Africa, via a partnership with Africa-based Bitcoin app Bitnob.

The move comes after a similar collaboration between Bitnob and Lightning payments app Strike, which enabled the latter's U.S. users to instantly transfer money to bank accounts in Nigeria, Ghana and Kenya with minimal fees. Send Globally connects users in Africa with those in the U.S., EU and U.K. through the Lightning Network, Bitcoin's low-cost and fast payment overlay protocol.

📚 Middle School Bitcoiners

How Dozens Of Denver Middle Schoolers Became Bitcoin Entrepreneurs

Three Bitcoiners went to a local Denver middle school to teach students there about the properties of money and Bitcoin.

They first were introduced to what bitcoin was and why it was important, of course, followed by a quick demonstration on downloading a Muun Wallet and generating Lightning invoices. 

They then received sats passed out from the programs demonstrators. Soon, the entrepreneurs were happily accepting sats for payment. The authors encourage any readers who are interested to consider doing a similar program at an educational center near them.
