Dear Voornaam,

It was not the news Prime Minister Rishi Sunak or indeed Chancellor Jeremy Hunt wanted to hear ahead of the Budget/Election. It was confirmed today that the UK was in a technical recession at the end of last year.
I discussed the dreaded r word on the Scotsman's daily bulletin with Scott Reid from our business desk. He has some excellent long-read analysis running on scotsman.com getting to the bottom of what it all means. You can see both here

Meanwhile today, we have a package to mark one year since Nicola Sturgeon stepped down as First Minister, including our Political Editor Alistair Grant's memories of that dramatic day and analysis on where the SNP finds itself now after a turbulent 12 months.

Elsewhere, our Arts Correspondent Brian Ferguson has been catching up with the new director of the Edinburgh Playhouse Gordon Millar in a long-read interview. Find out how a taking to the stage as a 15 year old at the Fringe gave him a taste of theatre which lead to a career immersed in the industry, and his plans for Scotland’s biggest all-seater theatre.

Have a great evening

Alan
