The eggs bringing comfort to the Ukrainian diaspora |
|
This Easter, Sonia will be decorating eggs just like generations of her ancestors did, in what she describes as "almost a kind of meditative process". The ancient tradition of pysanky writing, using beeswax and dye, has been part of celebrating spring in Ukrainian culture from pagan times. When Christianity came in 988, it became part of the rituals observed at Easter. Here in Australia, the diaspora's continuing with these special traditions – and they say it's helping to keep spirits up while their homeland is suffering. Learn all about pysanky eggs in this feature from RN's Nicola Heath. Then, catch up on this weekend's episode of God Forbid, which looks into the historical facts of the life and death of Jesus Christ, the first century Galilean Jew. And in this first week of the election campaign – join Fran and PK to cut through the noise and hear what it all means for voters. Enjoy your weekend, Rosie Ryan, digital editorEnjoy getting RN in your inbox? Let your friends know so they can sign up too! |
