The steady resumption of 787 deliveries is a key part of Boeing’s push to generate cash and help shore up a balance sheet hit hard by internal struggles with several programs, most notably the 737 MAX and 787, as well as the global commercial passenger airline downturn.

While the soft international long-haul demand linked to COVID-19 pandemic travel restrictions is having some effect on delivery schedules, the FAA’s lack of approval is the reason no 787s are moving—and the biggest driver of the full-year delivery total.
